“Lovely Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 June 2014

Stayed here on the Sunday night deal, Hotel and grounds are lovely and stayed in Mews 2 which was a lovely room with excellent access to the grounds for our little dog. Evening meal was superb and the breakfast in the morning was excellent especially the scrambled eggs. The staff were very helpful and attentive and I would recommend this hotel if you are looking for somewhere for relaxtion and good food. The only downside, was the early morning alarm call from the cockerill, but have and will recommend this hotel to friends and family.

Room Tip: Try the mews rooms if you are travelling with a dog.

You wouldn't know the A14 was so close to the hotel. It's surrounded by tree's and has the most lovely grounds. The hotel itself is very old, but that is what makes it so charming. We found the atmosphere to be very relaxed and the staff very attentive. Our evening dinner was excellent, a lovely menu with local produce. We stayed in the Dean's Room, which was clean and the bed was huge and comfortable. I really liked the decor which was tasteful and in keeping with the character and age of the hotel. If you want uniform rooms with straight lines and no character then don't come here. If you are after something different and a hotel you will remember then give it a try. We will definitely return.

Room Tip: We had a room overlooking the front of the hotel which was lovely. We slept with the window open al...

This hall is set in a great location.

We arrived and there was a wedding reception, but this did not effect our stay.
The staff where great. we checked in no fuss. The room in the annexe we had because we had dogs with us was really well designed and comfortable. The restaurant was real old time french style menu and service. Being a chef this was great to see 100% for food and service.

A hidden gem

Stayed in the Abbey room for two nights in June. First impressions of the hotel were excellent. We sat on the immaculately presented patio and received excellent service from the staff.

The grounds were wonderful and very well kept, as we had a dog with us we found some lovely walks directly from the hotel. We also found the hotel extremely dog friendly, this was a BIG plus for us. Dogs are allowed in all areas apart from the dining room (which is fair enough) and staff seem to all love dogs.

We ate in the restaurant and the food was absolutely gorgeous, very pricy but to be honest it is possibly up there with some of the best food I've ever had.

The reason for the average review may seem harsh to some, however we paid £300 for two nights bed and breakfast in a main house room and don't think we received the comfort we deserved.

The room, albeit well decorated and well furnished fell far short of expectation. It was very very hot and opening the windows didn't make it any better. It was about 22 degrees centigrade outside so I was fairly understanding about this, seeing as the hotel does provide a fan.

We were both very tired the first night so went to bed at 10:30pm........

Our room was directly above the dining room, due to it being an old building the ceiling was very thin and we could hear a pin drop in the dining room below. Due to a large group in the dining room until about midnight and then staff setting up for breakfast after this we felt like we were sharing our bedroom with 20 diners which was frustrating.

On the bed was a very thick duvet, due to it being very hot in the room this was horrible. Furthermore the pillows were awful, heavy and provided no support (worn out). At midnight I asked for another couple of pillows at the reception, the hotel had none, it was suggested I take a cushion from the sofas in the bar area and use them, not too impressed with that suggestion.

Also the hotel lights illuminate the grounds and this looks superb, however they don't turn them off until the wee hours of the morning. Unfortunately this also illuminates the room even with the thick curtains drawn.

We both had an awful nights sleep and as a result didn't enjoy the following day as much as we thought we should. We went to Tescos the following day and bought two new pillows and some ear plugs, as a result we had a much better nights sleep the following night.

To summarise: the whole experience is excellent BUT.........this was unfortunately let down by the comfort of the room (possibly one of the most important things). If we didn't pay a premium for it I wouldn't be so bothered, but I've seriously had a better nights sleep in a war zone !

I stayed here recently for a family event, as I don't live locally I wasn't sure what yo expect, I couldn't have been more surprised as I came off the a14 - an absolutely hidden gem of a hotel. The rooms had everything you needed including bath and shower, with lots of nice touches included, plus a good firm bed. The staff were incredibly helpful and the facilities were extensive, the food was really very nice and they coped well with a big party. It is certainly somewhere I would stay again if I am ever in the area again.

My wife and I chose to stay at Ravenwood Hall for our wedding night in April 2014 and were delighted by how lovely the hotel. Our room was wonderful with uneven walls and an had the old country house feel. We had a lovely double poster master bed which was very comfortable and the room was modernized enough without losing its charm and character.
Our friends stayed in the mews rooms and they were very happy also. Small but perfect for one night.
The hotel breakfast was very good. There was plenty to choose from. Full English was excellent as was the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs.
We had a wander through the grounds and they are very nice. Would be even better if the weather had been better. Can imagine it is lovely to sit around the small pool in the sunshine having a drink.
The hotel is run superbly and would recommend this to anyone staying around the Suffolk area to try.

Room Tip: All rooms excellent but the master bedrooms with double poster bed were lovely.

My wife and I recently stayed at Ravenwood Hall in Bury St Edmunds for one night, which included a 3 course Chefs special dinner and breakfast. It was a Christmas present from our daughter, therefore somewhere we possibly wouldn't have known about or considered ourselves. It was an brilliant choice, the old place has a lovely feel about it and is set in beautiful grounds. The Chefs special dinner was excellent along with the service, the room was very comfortable with a bed that provided a good nights sleep followed by a fantastic full English breakfast, served once again by very friendly and helpful staff. We will be recommending Ravenwood Hall Hotel to our friends.

Room Tip: With only the one experience I would say chose a room in the main hotel, perhaps at the front (west...
