“Magna Carta at Cathedral”
Reviewed 28 May 2014

Went with friends to see one of the 4 copies of the Magna Carta. One of the volunteers told us about the history, then we saw the Document that first saw the light of day in 1215. Afterwards we toured the Cathedral and marvelled at the recent work by skilled stonesmiths. The old and new merge well. The ceiling can be viewed by mirror to save getting a stiff neck. Very light interior as many of the windows are plain glass. To sum up: Beautiful building located next to the lovely Abbey Gardens with no entrance fee. Suggest coffee and cakes afterwards at the Refectory at reasonable prices to round off a pleasant afternoon.

“Didn't quite make it for me.”
Reviewed 23 May 2014

I must confess to being a bit disappointed in my visit. It seemed like a mixture - to quote the Hymn Book - 'Ancient and Modern'. It did not quite gel with me. There are some magnificent parts, but the majesty of the older cathedrals seems to be missing.

“Colourful”

Fantastic ceilings and colour inside the Cathedral. The tower was only added a few years ago. Had a nice soup lunch in the refectory.

“Peaceful and picturesque”
Reviewed 2 May 2014

This cathedral was ending a service when we were quietly allowed inside. The sound of the organ was really moving. The stained glass windows are stunning as they surround it entirely.
