“Good pub B&B, very hospitable”
Reviewed 21 December 2013 via mobile

We had several rooms and stayed in a busy Saturday night, with lots of Christmas patties going on. We were welcomed, rooms were sorted out and nothing was too much trouble. A table was reserved for us in the very busy bar for our evening meal and despite so many parties the team were attentive and friendly all night.

Rooms were good pub rooms, bathroom a little tired and in need of some redecoration, but clean and perfectly useable.

Breakfast was a little slow, but as the waitress had been working until the close the night before and we were in no hurry, it was not an issue.

As we had time to kill before leaving, we had teas & coffees in the front bar, which provides large settees to lounge in comfort.

Hotel has a small car park around the back and we had no problem with a space.

Excellent Christmas Fair weekend! The hotel staff were very friendly and attentive at all times and even came out with us to retrieve our car when we could not get to the hotel due to closed roads for the Christmas Fair. What other hotel would offer that service?
Our room was very good and the food and wine (plus the IPA) excellent. Good value for money.
Despite probably the busiest weekend of the year for the hotel they still managed to get us a table for an evening meal at a time suitable to us.
A good old fashioned hostelery
Ok the car park is small, BUT, the hotel is so close to all the attractions, etc., once parked, no need to move the car until you leave.
Would we return? YES definitely, see you in 2014!

Room Tip: Only 9 rooms we were on the top floor, the bed was king size and the bathroom was big enough to get...

The hotel staff are very friendly and attentive, especially Lee anne, who couldn't do enough for us, eg booked our taxis etc, made sure our breakfast orders were taken etc.
The rooms are tired and in need of a refurb, they are very basic. They need more attention to detail especially with cleanliness, especially dusting window sills, skirting boards etc. The bed linen upon close inspection was dirty with hairs and stains on them.
The food at the hotel was very good, especially breakfast on the Sunday morning.
Parking can be a problem so be aware of this.
In my view the rooms are overprices and £60 would be a more realistic figure until the rooms are redecorated.

Room Tip: All rooms appear to be the same, but some are on a busy road within the 1 way system in the town.

Having booked two nights at this hotel on arrival we were shown where our room was. The bathroom was dirty and run down with a broken hinge on the toilet and a mouldy shower and dirty sink. The runner on the bed had stains on it and the side if the bed was stained. At £80 a night this was not acceptable. The staff were very kind and did say we could have the room for half price but there was no way we could stay in this room. The pub looked very nice but they need to update their rooms. We went to another hotel which was the same price.

Great pub with friendly staff, and ideal location if you are visiting the Greene King brewery.
If you are staying, the rooms are very basic. Shampoo and shower gel in bathroom had just been left from guests before and were half used !

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else
