“Excellent customer service”
Reviewed 28 March 2014

We stayed for 2 nights, from the moment we arrived the staff could not have been more helpful. On arrival it seemed no parking space was available but immediatly keys were found and space was sorted, our spot was absolutly ideal from then on.
Food was freshly prepared. served by cheerful, well presented staff, and of excellent quality.
Well done to all involved

Last week we had a very nice Sunday lunch here. The staff were excellent, the food very good and the toilets outstanding!! The pub is situated 300 metres from the Cathederal, so it's not in the new part of the town.

Stayed here with my 2 children aged 14 and 9, my friend and her son aged 12. We stayed for 2 nights and on the second night we all shared a family room. The rooms are huge, and are also very clean and well equipped. The staff are amazing - friendly, chatty but also very efficient. We had breakfast and couldn't fault it. The pub meals also looked really good. The atmosphere is very relaxed and friendly - would definitely recommend and would stay here again.

Stayed just before Christmas to see my daughter, pub was very busy but staff very welcoming and friendly. Lots of Christmas parties going on. The only thing that let it down was it's breakfast, boiled full english, nothing crispy or tasty, no choice of eggs. Guy serving seemed a little distant, another table just upped & left. Shane given the over all experience was good. stayed at another Greene King pub in Banbury, Cromwell Lodge, cracking breakfast, why so different here closer to the home brewery? Thanks to the evening staff for the welcome & looking after us. Will be back but may skip breakfast.

This place has friendly staff, a great location and big rooms -- the one we had with a sofa bed was large enough to fit in a baby in a travel cot, a couple and a teenager. Although we had booked two rooms, the staff member who showed us up offered us the opportunity to all go into one to save money, which was a nice touch.

The rooms could do with a bit of tender loving care -- the carpet in ours needed a deep clean and our shower mixer needed maintenance, but the other room we had booked was fine on those counts. We were pleased to be able to take our labrador with us (for £20/night charge).

Cooked breakfast was pretty good, served on hot plates, poached eggs on toast done well, nice pot of tea, not so nice coffee. Pub is nice and lively but the building is sufficiently solid to ensure you are not disturbed up in the rooms. Good beer but fairly indifferent, albeit inexpensive, pub grub.

Best thing about the place is that it is just a few hundred yards from the Cathedral, the abbey gardens and the town centre. For dog owners there is a lovely little meadow/copse to walk in just behind the pub and there is also the Greene King brewery and Peatlings wine merchants, one of the best in England, to visit.

Room Tip: Some rooms classed as doubles are big enough to make comfortable family rooms.

We had several rooms and stayed in a busy Saturday night, with lots of Christmas patties going on. We were welcomed, rooms were sorted out and nothing was too much trouble. A table was reserved for us in the very busy bar for our evening meal and despite so many parties the team were attentive and friendly all night.

Rooms were good pub rooms, bathroom a little tired and in need of some redecoration, but clean and perfectly useable.

Breakfast was a little slow, but as the waitress had been working until the close the night before and we were in no hurry, it was not an issue.

As we had time to kill before leaving, we had teas & coffees in the front bar, which provides large settees to lounge in comfort.

Hotel has a small car park around the back and we had no problem with a space.
