Description: ‘There will come a day when our championing of this brilliant French restaurant means we will not be able to book a seat there due to it being so busy! Until that time we will simply state our great admiration for the cuisine, wine and new décor.’ East Anglia Daily Times

Just moved in up the road and decided to try the restaurant that smells so delicious it makes me hungry every time i step outside. The service was sterile and involved a lot of waiting on our part. The staff appeared to concentrate on certain others in the section and we hoped the food would be so delicious that we would not mind. Unfortunately we did mind and instead of going out for a lovely evening we have returned home thoroughly despondent and future plans to nip out for lovely lunches and dinners on our door step will have to be altererd. Will not return. Such a shame to spend an evening in a restaurant discussing how dreadful it is

As usual the greeting on arrival was warm and friendly. This cannot be emphasised too much. We chose the 2-course set lunch at £16.95. The starters - black tiger prawns (2 prawns!) on a risotto and mackerel on a potato salad - were very enjoyable, We both then had salmon fillet served on a celeriac sauce with vegetables (well, I should say 1 carrot, 1 brussel sprout (!), 1 small scoop mashed potato and a small quantity of sloppy swede puree). This all on a lukewarm plate and by the time it got to the table the food was barely warm. Whilst we were eating the staff were fully occupied serving a large party nearby.

When our plates were taken away, the very courteous waitress asked if we had enjoyed the meal. We told her that it was not hot and she said she would pass on our comments to the chef.

Nothing more was said until we left and we decided to draw Pascale's attention to the shortcomings of the meal. She apologised but merely said we should have told her at the time we were eating the meal - which given how busy they were would have been difficult.

A gesture of remorse would have been appreciated. We feel it is unlikely that we would want to return.

Returned to the Maison Bleue for our 25th anniversary treat.
Warm welcome on arrival and shown straight to table, note booking was essential on the Saturday evening we were there.
The waiting staff are attentive and helpful.
Very elegant surroundings, I always prefer a table cloth, flowers and candles.
Around 75% of dishes are fish, we had Skate and Monk fish, both excellent.
Shared a cheese board, with five selected cheeses from a choice of 20-25 on the trolley, including recommendations from staff - good choice.
Delicious desserts, wide choice, but we picked two we were very pleased with.
Coffee and very reasonably priced brandy to finish.

We have eaten here twice and both occasions have been rather disappointing. The food is fine but the price doesn't reflect this, we are always willing to pay for quality food. We found this place hugely overrated. The staff were attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. The wine list is good and well balanced. The food just isn't as good as the hype; the portions are tiny and the flavours were lacking. We were expecting something very good based on other reviews and prices but it just didn't deliver.

Went for a family adult lunch - set menu 3 courses for £18.95. Excellent quality of food and service and very good wine list - quite reasonably priced for a restaurant of this quality. I am not aware of anything similar in the area - excellent quality personally supervised by the proprietor.
