“Wonderful stay”
Reviewed 4 October 2011

We hadn't stayed at the Swan since our honeymoon 42 years ago but everything is still wonderful! We had a great time and the room, although fairly small was very nicely decorated and equipped and the bed very comfortable with good linens.
The dinner was excellent as was the breakfast and the lounge areas are very well equiped with comfortable chairs and sofas and tastfully decorated.
The only criticism was some noise from fans outside the bedroom during the night.
The staff couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. The warrens on the way to the rooms add to the hotel's charm and the town itself is full of interesting and ancient buildings.
It won't be 42 years before we return!

We stayed at the Swan overnight on a special break which was excellent value. The staff were at all times friendly, courteous and attentive. The building is absolutely beautiful and it was a delight to stay in such a historical place which has been sympathetically furnished and decorated. We had a lovely room with a separate seating area and two TVs! Meals were excellent with a good choice and served well by staff (no buffet diy). Lavenham is also a lovely place to wander around and the weather helped by being warm and sunny. Wish we could have stayed longer but hopefully we will again in the future.

Room Tip: More noise from traffic on main road if you staying in a room at the front of the hotel.

Fantastic service. Nothing too much to ask. Staff always helpful and attentive. Went for anniversary and was even presented with a card from the staff on arrival. Restaurant and food was first class. Atmosphere superb and room a delight. We paid full price for B&B plus dinner and will definitely be coming back. Says it all really.

Stayed at the Swan on a special offer break - afternoon tea, bottle of house champagne, dinner, bed & breakfast. From first to last everything was just perfect, friendly attentive staff, some great little touches which make such a difference eg my husband wanted mint tea, but doesn't like peppermint, without hesitation our waitress offered tea made with mint from the garden. The water and fruit at reception were most welcome after a long hot drive from London. The room was tastefully decorated, perhaps a litltle noisy as close to the road, but we did have to keep the windows open due to the unseasonably hot weather (although there was a fan in the room too). Dinner was excellent, we have done other offers where the a la carte menu has been far more limited than the usual, but we ate from the standard menu and everything was cooked to perfection. Thank you for a fantastic stay.

We stayed in this hotel for one night at the end of our two week holiday. It was the best of the 4 hotels we stayed in by quite a margin. Where to start?
Building is amazing - manage to make a feature of the 15th century aspects of the building while still keeping it feeling contemporary and modern.
The staff were fantastic , the receptionists friendly and helpful and a welcoming atmosphere. We stayed in a suite - the Gainsborough - which was beautiful : nice bedroom with big comfy bed, overlooking the garden, and then a separate lounge area at the front of the building. Bathroom was small but well equipped.
We enjoyed a drink in the lovely peaceful garden before wandering around Lavenham which is very historic.
As to the food.... This has a two rosette restaurant, but it was better than a three rosette restaurant we stayed in earlier in the week.
We had a meal deal but went a la carte. I have eaten scallops many times but these were equisite - juicy and so tasty. Followed by the best venison I have had and a wonderful pud. Wine list is good too - decent wines but not stratospheric prices.
The hotel is not cheap but we felt it was well worth it.
Will recommend to others without hesitation.

We spent two nights at the Swan Hotel in Lavenham, eating in the restaurant on both nights. It's a really lovely place - the building is amazing and has lots of character. As it's very old it's a bit of a rabbit warren but the public rooms downstairs are just lovely and our room, perhaps a little away from the others because we had our dog with us us, was spacious and very comfortable. The very well trained were charm itself. Food in the restaurant, both breakfast and dinner was good. We had the cream tea one afternoon and the 'Swan afternoon tea' the following day which were both good. It was a sunny day and we had the latter outside in the garden.

The Hotel is on the High Street and Lavenham is such a small place that everything is just a few minutes walk away. There's limited parking at the hotel and we parked on the street immediately outside the front door - this might not be so easy in the Summer, but there is an overspill car park not far away.

This is one of the nicest hotels we've stayed in and Lavenham itself is quite special.

There aren't many places where you can take your dog and let him off the lead but there's a old railway track nearby that's good for this.

I booked to stay at The Swan this weekend as a birthday treat for my partner. We had a fantastic time, the staff were great - extremely helpful and accommodating. We were greeted in the car park by a member of staff who carried our bags to reception (for check in) and then on to our rooms. The room was beautiful (a feature room), bed very comfy, bathroom great, loads of hot water and good water pressure. The hotel is so beautiful and they way in which they have incoporated modern conveniences is highly commendable. The food was perfect, we had booked the 'dinner, bed and breakfast' option which gives you the option to pick off their a la carte menu (at a supplement). We mixed and matched our meal between the house menu and a la carte menu. Portion sizes were great, in fact we had to resort to sorbet for our desert as I simpy couldnt pack any more in!! Breakfast was also delicious. I honestly couldn't fault our stay and have already recommended it to friends and family, oh and am already planning our return!
