We stayed for three nights at the Swan and enjoyed every one of them. First the building has splendid character, beams outside, beams inside, cushioned with "mind your head" on the ups and downs passages of the first floor. Reception was very welcoming, as we're the staff throughout our stay. Our room was large with a seating area and well furnished, no chain hotel room stuff here. The bathroom was compact but had everything and a good shower. The bed was comfortable and the room very quiet, so we slept well.
We went down the (included) breakfast menu from the full Suffolk fry-up through Eggs Benedict to smoked salmon and scrambled eggs and everything was excellent. We had dinner in the Gallery restaurant twice, both times good, and we enjoyed the bar; again always with friendly, happy service.
Wifi is free in the room and the public areas and so was parking, easy in either the hotel car park and on the street (Lavenham, bless them, has free parking everywhere).

We stayed at the Swan to celebrate a special birthday, we couldn't have made a better choice. The hotel is a delight, the staff a credit to themselves and the management, and the village of Lavenham is straight off the front of a chocolate box. Our room (57) was spacious with a huge bed, sofa, armchair, desk and large tv and oak beams in all sorts of places. Coffee and tea makings were in abundance and the bathroom small but adequate with excellent toiletries. Inexplicably the safe is on the floor in the wardrobe...to access it you would literally have to prostrate yourself in front of it...not great. A fan is provided but we were staying during the recent heatwave and it didn't really help but was better than nothing.
We ate breakfast and dinner in the Gallery restaurant. Excellent food, beautifully presented and piping hot. The service was both friendly and professional. We enjoyed afternoon tea in one of the many lounges, the meringue swans looked too pretty to eat, but we managed! The garden is lovely. We enjoyed our after dinner coffee there on our first evening and the petit fours that were served came on a slate tray with Happy birthday iced across it, a nice touch. There is a small car park at the rear of the hotel but plenty of parking in the streets nearby and amazingly , to us Londoners, it was free!
We would absolutely recommend this hotel and look forward to a return visit.

Stayed at the Swan on a 3 night deal and had a lovely stay. On arrival they upgraded us to a junior suite and there was a card for our wedding anniversary; a very nice touch and very welcome. The suite had separate bedroom and living areas, a good size bathroom and lots of period decoration. Bathrobes, tea and coffee and water were provided.

The service is excellent, nothing is too much trouble. The nightly turn down service even replenished water and tea, coffee and biscuits.

Breakfast is all served at the table, with a good choice of hot breakfasts cooked to order. Much better than a buffet style.

Dinner offers a choice of 3 menus, one in the brasserie, the other two in the restaurant. We had 2 meals from the table d'hote, and the third from the a la carte. Each meal was very well cooked and served. There is a good selection of reasonably priced wine. Before the meal canapes were served in the large and comfortable lounge areas. On the final night the weather had improved and we had our pre-dinner drinks and canapes in the garden.

Lavenham is a lovely village, and the church is well worth a visit.

We arrived in picturesque Lavenham for a two day stay in glorious sunshine, this allowed us to make excellent use of the Swan's lovely little garden with drinks from the bar.

The reception and sitting areas at the Swan are rather lovely, and have obviously had time and plenty of money spent on them.

Our room, a Junior Suite was very comfortable with plenty of room and quite a luxurious feel, it was a very nice place to relax and enjoy a romantic break(only slightly let down by a few minor scuffs and marks - unavoidable in a busy hotel).

Breakfasts were delicious, and of a very high standard with an excellent selection available.

On the first night we ate in the Brasserie, my Scotch Egg, Bacon and Black Pudding Salad starter was a little disappointing, the bacon and black pudding weren't just crisp they were quite hard! For my main I took advantage of the excellent value 'Super Club' a homemade Chicken Kiev, Fries and Salad including a glass of white wine for £10. This on the other hand was fantastic.
My Husband loved to Charcuterie Board and his main of Chorizo Stew & Lamb Shank was equally well received.

We opted for the The Gallery a la carte on our final night, it began with some tasty Canapes in the sitting area before we moved into the truly magnificent setting of the restaurant (warm and glowing with oak beams galore and a really sumptuous feeling...perfect for a romantic dinner!)
Starters of Confit Pig Cheek with Scratching Risotto was delicious if not a little too filling, my Husband's Liver Parfait was divine altho we found the Brioche Sauce a little sickly sweet.
Main of Pan-Fried Cod with Saffron Rice and Seafood was lovely, light and tasty.
Desserts of Peach Jelly (grainy and sweet lacking in the delicate peach taste I hoped for) with White Chocolate Cannelloni (too sickly sweet)& Raspberry Sorbet (the best bit but only two tiny teaspoonfuls) and Deconstructed Lemon Meringue Pie (vast amount of lemon curd with pipings of grilled soft meringue and some crunchy bits) were both, unfortunately on the disappointing side.
Overall, the hotel was really lovely with a fantastic ambience and feeling of refinement. The food overall was really enjoyable and of a high quality (altho here and there it felt they were trying to hard to be stylish instead of just providing really good tastes).

I would recommend this lovely place to anyone who wants a relaxing break in a beautiful and historic building in a wonderful corner of Suffolk.

We had my mother's 80th birthday lunch there which was great. I had heard much about the hotel over the years but never visited and was not disappointed. though we did not stay the function we had in a separate room came with excellent service and good food could not be faulted. sat out for afternoon tea which is worth having. Great old world hotel in a lovely village. Would defiantly try staying next time.

My family of 5 stayed at the Swan for one night as it was convenient for a local family wedding. The rooms and food were good but the service made the stay notable. We asked for early check in for two rooms and the staff made every effort to accommodate us-which they achieved. We then had to ask for extra-quick service for food in the bistro, which again was understood and delivered. When we checked out, we informed the staff that we had left 2 hotel umbrellas at the site of the wedding reception, but were told that a staff member would collect them ( 6 miles away)-no problem.
All small details but they add up to make you believe that the staff are trained to look after you. We recommend the hotel.

Delightful setting for meeting with an old friend but our lunch conversation was drowned out by a very intrusive piano in the minstrels gallery above our table. The food was disappointing, I chose the bream which was dry and over cooked , on a bed of pea and prawn risotto which required a lot more seasoning. The roast pork was also over cooked and lacked enough fresh vegetables. All in all rather disappointing and very expensive.
