My second stay at The Swan this year was as enjoyable as my first. This hotel simply does not disappoint. From the highly skilled and friendly staff (something I find quite rare these days) to the fine dining The Swan just gets it right all the time. The building itself exudes character and charm, wood burning stoves not only give off a warm glow as well as heat but add to the whole feel of the cosy lounges and sitting areas. The bedrooms are beautifully furnished, the level of maintenance is high. It would be easy for The Swan to fit in the "pretentious" bracket like so many hotels, but it does not, everything about it is just perfect. So if you are in Suffolk visit The Swan, even if you just sample the afternoon tea, you will be tempted to return and no doubt stay longer. Perfect!

In my humble opinion there are two things that visitors to Suffolk should do and that is visit Lavenham and have a meal at the Swan! Lavenham is a beautiful small town with quant medieval buildings and loads of antique shops. The Swan is a wonderful medieval building and keeps to the atmosphere of the area brilliantly.
We - a party of 4 - visited the for lunch and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The service is immaculate and the food beautifully cooked and presented. We kept to the 3 course menu which at £22 is fantastic value. Whilst the choice is not extensive - which in my book is always a good sign - the food offered was unusual and catered for all tastes. Well done the Swan, we will be back!

I stayed on business for two nights. Check in could not have been better handled - it felt personal. I came to understand that this small chain obviously prioritises customer service which was excellent in all interactions, with all staff, no exceptions. I'd go so far to say that this is a model for other, better known hotel chains to copy... or at least to aspire to (are you listening Holiday Inn?).

My room was nicely appointed but a bit too hot - the radiator was an off or on affair - and I had to open the windows of my ground floor room (on to a public road at the rear of the hotel) to manage this. The WiFi signal in the room was poor and dropped out regularly, which, sadly, is a consideration when on business travel (and will increasingly become a priority for leisure travellers too). The bed was very comfy.

I had dinner in the bar both nights. The food was good (and generous). However, the chef served food in inappropriate dishes - fish and chips on a slate which led to the chips falling off and skiting across the table when it was served (they weren't replaced) and a side salad in a deep, sloping soup bowl that made it really hard to eat. Pity - style over practicality undermined the chef's efforts.

The hotel's car park is in another street in the village and needs to be better signposted - I missed it on arrival. Be prepared for a walk (not so bad - 100 metres) with your luggage.

This is a well managed, characterful, historic hotel whose limited shortcomings are overwhelmed by their successful efforts to deliver top class customer service and good food.

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms at rear open on to a public (but quiet) road.

We arrived early and were received well especially by reception. We had not been to the Swan for many years and it was a great return. When we went to our room it was beautifully presented and stylish and clean. We were there for my birthday and first impressions could not have been better. We went down to eat in the main restaurant which in its self is delightful. The food and service we received was excellent with a good choice on both the House menu and a la carte.
Breakfast when we came down in the morning was again in the main restaurant and you did not have to help yourself. great service again.
It was a loveley stay and will be repeated.

I had not stayed at The Swan - an iconic building in the beautiful Suffolk wool
town of Lavenham - for three years and this was, sadly, only a one night business trip. Once you get the hang of the labyrinthine lay-out, this is truly a fabulous English country hotel, but even if it did not have the picture-book looks it has, The Swan would score highly on the attentiveness, consideration and old-fashioned charm and politeness of its staff. "Nothing was too much trouble for them" may be a reviewers' cliché but it happens to be true. Customer service is obviously put
at a premium here and it showed despite the hotel being incredibly busy with several overlapping functions.

Our stay in The Swan Hotel was to celebrate a special occasion and the hotel was perfect, the attentive staff are customer focused from the moment you pull up outside until you drive away at the end of your stay.

Our room was a feature room with exposed beams, a huge fireplace and a large, comfortable bed. The provision of soft cotton bathrobes made stepping out of the large shower a delight. Guidebooks and literature about the hotel and surrounding area made exploring this beautiful village easy.

We had afternoon tea in the lounge in front of a roaring fire. Various scones were served with butter, clotted cream and jam along with a varied selection of teas and coffee.

After a walk around the village we stopped for a drink in the Airman's Bar, with its walls decked out in the history of the local RAF station. A huge variety of ales, wines and spirits are available with the selection of whiskey and bourbon being particularly impressive.

Dinner was simply out of this world with two exceptional three course menus being offered and consisting of a varied cuisine blending British and European tastes. The friendly staff were always on hand to top up your wine and water along with having an excellent knowledge of the menu.

After a peaceful and comfortable nights sleep the breakfast was able to set us up for the day ahead with juices, cereal, yoghurt, toast and a selection of main breakfasts. The Full Suffolk with its local produce was excellent.

We will definitely be back to The Swan!
