There is a lot to see in this very attractive house and the room guides are able to give you all the history of the family home as you walk around. Children will love seeing Beatrix Potter's sketches and those interested in the sea will enjoy all the naval photographs which are on display.

A superb National Trust Elizabethan beauty with pepper-pot turrets and slender chimneys. The house goes around three sides of the courtyard with the entrance facing the garden,
There is a splendid staircase leading to a gallery on the second floor. But this is not what punters came here for!!. Its the Beatrix Potter Room that has the lovers of the author's splendid drawings and paintings........so is her collection of toy animals. Fabulous place.

We were looking for a place to visit on the bank holiday in May with our NT member cards. We had a look through the National Trust book and found that Melford Hall was around 1hr 20 mins away from home. It was a lovely hall to walk around with lots to see and even our very young son was taking it all in. It was nice to see the Beatrix Potter connections in the house and the grounds were good to stroll around and the lawn was welcome to relax on in the warm sun.

Really lovely afternoon out and well worth a visit.

A beautiful house, still lived in by the original family, who over the generations have made alterations that have converted the house from a 'stately home' to the sort of house that you can actually imagine living in.
Fascinating Beatrix Potter associations, with several of her original paintings and drawings.
Interesting history of the house and family excellently explained by the many friendly room stewards
