National Trust, closed in the winter months. We visited last week of opening. Very good tour internally, well worth a visit.

This was our first visit to Melford Hall and we really enjoyed it, helped by the many helpful, knowledgeable and friendly staff. This lovely hall, set in wonderful countryside, is well worth a visit - it has a fascinating history including a fire in 1942 and links with Beatrice Potter who used to spend a lot of time here. My husband has limited mobility and it was lovely to find that there is a stairlift (with a wheelchair on loan to use on the upper floor) to enable him to actually get upstairs rather than just view it all on a computer or booklet downstairs. The staff were extremely helpful and as the stairlift is 'behind the scenes' we also got to meet some of the catering staff we wouldn't normally see and were delighted to find they were also happy, chatty and very welcoming. After touring the house it was lovely to 'wheel' round the garden and pop into the gatehouse on the way out. I would thoroughly recommend a visit.

Visited the Autumn Fair and was quite surprised to find that dogs are not allowed in the gardens as they are in Ickworth. Will have to come back to visit the Hall another time.

Melford Hall is not the largest of NT properties but what it lacks in size in makes up for with character. The house was clearly once a comfy home for a family that has a real story to tell. The link to BP may be a little over-stated but that is perhaps understandable. The guides were both knowledgeable and friendly. All in all, we very much enjoyed our visit.

Interesting place really enjoyed the experience, staff were knowledgeable and friendly.
The only thing that let it down for us was the size of the tea room and the shop wasn't great.
