I recently attending a dinner for a bunch of us using a private room. We had all chosen our menu choices weeks beforehand. Service was ok. Normally when we use this room we only have minimum staff which is never enough, but they were attentive and friendly. What was disappointing was the food. Quite a few of our party had ordered what was supposed to be monkfish wrapped in pancetta with a sauce. What we got was quite different. Firstly the order came out looking like something from a weight watchers magazine! A very dry piece of monkfish which had obviously been kept warm for quite some time. No pancetta, no sauce. Some peas which were completely dried up and inedible. We asked about the pancetta, which the waitrose eventually came back with on a plate with several pieces of crispy pancetta! Not what we expected at all! We tried the monkfish but it was also inedible, completely dry and tasteless. Obviously we complained to the waitrose who came back with the chef. He apologised but gave no reason for the meal being so awful. He offered us another fish dish, this time with Sea bass and freshly made peas. Of course, we accepted as we were all very hungry and did not wait too long. This next dish was edible, although very bland and colourless. Dessert was cheese and biscuits which was served with a plain cheddar, a piece of brie and blue cheese. Some grapes which were old and soft with a nice enough relish but with cream crackers!! This is the first time I have been disappointed with the food and was quite surprised. Everyone felt the same way and for a Friday evening especially and a party of 25, it makes you wonder why it went so wrong. Whether we will all go back again, I don't know? But with some very good restaurants around the neighbouring villages, it is possible that if the Bedford doesn't up it's game, it will lose customers elsewhere.

Stayed here on a busy Saturday night whilst attending the race meeting at Newmarket.
Good start when we were able to check in to our room at 11-30 which is always a bonus.
Really nice hotel and grounds, good service offered organising a taxi to the racecourse for us and asking our plans to help with booking a meal (not just in hotel).
Returned to hotel after the races and a trip to town, hotel was really busy but still able to get a waiter to serve drinks outside. Breakfast was really good and well organised, I'd recommend the eggs Benedict.
Room was nice and clean, big enough for what we needed and with a comfortable bed so all in all a really good stay.

Just love it here. Rooms lovely, spacious, fresh coffee milk in rooms, breakfast great. Love rooms overlooking stables.
Pool and gym good.
No complaints apart from prices go up ridiculously when races are on!!

Room Tip: Overlooking stables my favourite

My girlfriend and I stayed here for one night and she got one of the treatments from the spa. The room as great, breakfast was delicious, the staff is superb, and my girlfriend was really happy with her spa treatment and I enjoyed other great facilities such as swimming pool, Jacuzzi, etc. I think we will be back at some point. Highly recommended for a relaxed weekend.

Room Tip: I guess all rooms are good, we asked for a quiet one and that is what we got.
