We arrived late afternoon on a Friday and stayed in garden room 3 (which overlooked a shed full of rubbish rather than the garden). The room was clean and a good size, especially the bathroom which had a large shower, but the bed wasn't particularly comfortable and could do with replacing. The walls between us and the room next door were very thin and we could hear every word from our neighbours. But looking at the inside of the hotel, we were glad we had a garden room. We didn't think the room was worth £100 but it served a purpose (Newmarket Evening Races). The young chap who was behind the bar when we arrived could seriously do with some tips on customer service. The service from the morning staff was great though. A warm welcome for breakfast and the breakfast was very good. When we checked out we were not asked whether we'd had a good/comfortable stay.

Room Tip: Garden Room 1 or 2

My second visit and the staff were very helpful, the room for a disabled person was perfect and the restaurant and outside seating as it was fine weather was a pleasure. Situated just off a main artery its convenient and yet peaceful due to the lovely gardens.

As has been previously mentioned the entrance is through the conservatory dining room, which I would imagine could prove a little awkward for diners & arrivals alike. A tip if staying in one of the 3 garden rooms is to leave your luggage in the car while you check in as the carpark is a few steps away (very convenient!).

I received a very pleasant & helpful welcome from the young chap behind the bar and he duly showed me how to get to the room (No.2) away from the main building. POSITIVES: Clean, modern decor; ironing board/iron; plug in heater; comfy bed & pillows; lots of proper lightbulbs! (not the usual dim energy saving ones found in hotels now).

NEGATIVES: Nowhere to properly work - the only space is between a lamp & the tea tray on top of 2 drawer units pushed together; the toilet needs a bottle of bleach urgently - it's badly stained & quite smelly despite the blue block; cold stone floor; having to trace the wire from the bathroom heater back into the room to find the switch; no double glazing meaning being woken at 3.45am by the birds; no blackout curtains, in fact very light ones.

This is a nice hotel but I need a desk space to work and there are other minor issues so I wouldn't return. I didn't try the food nor have i seen the rooms in the main building, so cannot comment.

We spent 6 weeks in May/June 2013 touring Europe including Greek Islands and a highlight of our tour has to be the two occasions we stayed at The Rosery Hotel. Comfortable, clean, excellent choice of food and drinks, lovely garden setting and amazingly friendly staff. So handy for Stansted Airport, Newmarket Races, motorways and London. Proprietor Tony (with his entertaining stories) even provided us with an itinerary of quaint surrounding villages and places of interest. Ask Tony about the volcanoes in New Zealand!!

Room Tip: The garden rooms are excellent.

On the the 12th June 2013 our Retirment Association of 45 members had dinner for the second time this year at the Rosery.after a visit to Ely. The food was excellent and good value for money. We were served efficiently by friendly staff. They catered for all our needs and we will certainly visit them again.
