“the best in town”
Reviewed 29 August 2010

Having lived in the area for some years and enjoyed the hospitality and food at the Ipswich Galley, we were delighted when the Galley opened in Woodbridge. The building itself is atmospheric with its many rooms (including cellar dining) offering a choice of seating. The owner Ugur has an excellent staff trained to serve and always welcoming.
Food is from Turkish specialities to traditional making use (and naming) local suppliers - so it's fresh.
We have now visited this several times both for lunches and dinners and it has become a favourite place to take guests.
Surprisingly the cost is reasonable from a daily special menu to the standard menu which changes regularly with the seasons - easy to chose to suit the budget, so cannot fault it.
The restaurant is situated in the old part of Woodbridge in Market Hill at top of town and therefore out of the main shopping and waterside areas - the most attractive part of the town for the colourful houses and mixed architecture which some visitors seem to miss when visiting. All well worth the walk up the hill!
Having tried most of the hostelries in the town, this definitely continues to rate as favourite for us, our friends and visiting families.
Check opening times as not open on Mondays and Tuesdays for much of the year.

“Who'd have thought combining Suffolk & Turkish cuisine could work so well?”
Reviewed 27 August 2010

This restaurant is well above the usual fare. The dishes are imaginative combinations of English and European cooking, served by the welcoming chef, Ugur Vata. If you get the chance, try the Mezze (sharing starter). My favourite dessert is the Turkish delight flavoured ice-cream; it's delicate, not sickly.

There's a sister restaurant in Ipswich (and another in Turkey that I haven't tried), but I prefer Woodbridge as it's cosier. Ask for a table upstairs. They don't double-book tables and you can stay 'till late, esp at weekends.

The building is wooden-beamed, set on the historic Market Hill. Park outside or around the corner in Theatre Street car park.

Dress code is smart-casual. Jeans are OK, but you can dress-up without feeling over-dressed.
