Being born in Dorking I was always up and down both Box Hill and Ranmore with our dogs. Now, even though having moved away, it is still a superb place to visit. From minnow fishing by the Stepping Stones to exploring the old fort and tower at the top, this area offers everything from peace & tranquillity, to extreme action with cycling, night walks to see bats and badgers and general sightseeing. Unless a fan of motorbikes, avoid the bottom car parks on Sundays and Bank holidays, as there are hundreds of bikes on show (used to ride myself in my younger years)! Midweek is quieter and you have many choices of refreshment - the café at the top of Box Hill offers decadent cakes, cream teas and so on, whilst Rykers at the bottom is your typical long lost and loved motorway café - superb for a bit of grease if that's your poison (yum yum)!! When crossing the Stepping Stones, keep an eye on the roots of the trees to your right, where you will see some massive chub - always reaching out for a careless fly, but seemingly never to be caught by the anglers!
