Great night out. Busy pub, excellent food, polite and helpful bar staff and a good night was had by all. Only one small problem, no phone coverage inside so had to go out into the rain and walk a fair bit from the pub to get coverage to phone for a taxi.

Been away from the area awhile, really looked forward to revisiting the The Royal Oak again. Not disappointed. Friendly knowledgeable staff, great welcome and excellent food. I heard the steaks were to die for and so it proved. Best Rump I've had in a long time and that includes the U.S.
The missus had the Seafood Risotto and just loved it.
A very nice wine list (or so my wife tells me), and the beer in tip top condition, pity the choice is not so extensive but that's tied pubs for you... just imagine if the Guv'nor had a larger choice!
Will be back soon.. already looking forward to it

A group of six of us went here for a meal, as the Plough down the road had closed down. We didn't know what to expect, and the menu we saw in advance didn't look very inspiring. However, when we arrived, the place looked very nicely refurbished, and we were given a round table - perfect for a six-way conversation. Not a vast choice of beers, but the Youngs Hummingbird went down very well for three of us, as did the Special which was enjoyed by two others.
When the food arrived, we were very pleasantly surprised. The starter portions were good and well presented, and more to the point, very tasty. The mains were also well up to the mark, good portions and obviously home cooked rather than from the freezer. I had the avocado, prawn and crayfish salad to start, which was at least as good as I was hoping, and the vegetable lasagne to follow, which was really tasty. It was served on a plate rather than one of those little oven-to-table dishes that you get in most pubs, that encourage you to burn your mouth at every forkful, and the side-salad with it was much better than normal pub-grub standard. A couple of my friends had the lamb cutlets which looked massive and finger-lickin' good. The desserts went down very well with those of us who still weren't full enough - a very chocolatey confection, sticky toffee pudding and a light and crispy creme brulee.
All in all, a very enjoyable evening with friends in pleasant surroundings with delicious food that didn't break the bank. I think we'll be coming here again.

Excellent fish & chips best in the area plus good pint of Youngs bitter.
Nice place when weather is sunny/warm with plenty of outside seating.

We went with friends on Bank Holiday Monday as we wanted a change and had read good reviews here. The menu had a fairly standard selection of pub grub with a few additional specials but no children's menu and they were not able to do a child's size burger so 2 out of the 3 children had adult meals which wasn't ideal. However the food was fresh and well made and everyone had a good meal.
