I brought a group of walkers here in July 2009. Birchfield has quite a number of rooms and the hosts, Jean and James, are business-like, competent and really very friendly! The rooms were clean and comfortable, there is a sitting-room with a TV and board games, breakfast was marvellous and we all slept like logs, since Torlundy is so quiet and peaceful. James is an experienced walker and a mine of up-to-date information on walks, routes, parking etc, too.
My perfume allergy brings Birchfield's rating down though. I'd asked the Weirs, but they use such a plethora of perfumed goods... not only perfumed household cleaners, perfumed washing powder and fabric softener - they provide perfumed hand soap, shower soap, talc, pot pourri, air freshener in the loo, and even have perfumed something-or-other plugged into the electric sockets (!???) Even after bundling anything perfumed into double plastic bags for the duration of my stay I still croaked and snuffled, took medication and headache tablets...
Oh yes - the Weirs have 2 beautiful friendly cats and a superbly well-tended garden, too, with views of the mountains on both sides of the Great Glen. It's a lovely B&B, but not for people with allergies.More
