“A real classic hotel”
Reviewed 12 July 2014 via mobile

This hotel is very classic with legacy & countryside touches and luxury amenities. Staff are very friendly. The hotel is in a excellent location; in the middle of the high street. One of the best restaurant in the town is located inside this hotel.

I was delighted to read that we managed to provide you with a nice experience in our property. It is a pleasure to know that you enjoyed the atmosphere which combines the classic British design and heritage enhanced by luxury amenities and friendly service.

I am sure other visitors to this website will benefit from your comment on the restaurant within the hotel. We work very closely with both of our independent restaurant operators - Angel Dining Rooms and the Bill's, which both offer excellent choice, distinctive ambience and friendly service.

A very unique and typical British atmosphere in this historic Coach House Inn.
We enjoyed our stay - the hotel is centrally placed for shopping and restaurants. Bill's restaurant is integrated into the property and is excellent. The only problem is that there are no parking facilities and the car parks are not that close...

Room Tip: If you want a twin bedded room make very sure you make that clear when you book.

Dear Guests,

Thank you for choosing the Angel Hotel for your recent family visit in the UK. It is a pleasure to know that you have enjoyed your stay, in particular our typical atmosphere and central location within the heart of Guildford. Your positive comments about Bill's will be also gladly passed onto the restaurant team, who I am sure will be very proud of their contribution to your overall experience at our property.

Your comment about the parking was well noted. While the hotel is located in a pedestrian zone and the main lifestyle precinct of the town, unfortunately the parking during the day is limited to designated parking areas further from the hotel. We usually advise our guests to park in the Tunsgate, which is about 5 minute drive from the hotel and can be accessed easily by foot in under 10 minutes. We also provide maps at the Reception for the most convenient route to the car park. Standard rates apply. For overnight parking, there is a possibility to park the car directly outside of the hotel free of charge and the car needs to be removed in the morning. For more details the reception is happy to assist anytime.

We hope to welcome you again for another family visit, or simply a lovely break in Guildford.

Kind regards,

Anna Shakespeare

This was our 2nd visit to Guildford in order to visit our daughter at ATC Pirbright. It is just about 20 minutes to the Army base. We had stayed in a Holiday Inn previously which was okay but not near the town centre or anywhere very interesting for an evening stroll. Our idea here was to stay in the town centre, stroll along the tow path and have a spot of dinner before a (hopefully) good nights sleep after a 5 hour drive from Yorkshire.
Well all worked out well, we ate in Bills bar downstairs which has a good menu and seemed popular amongst the locals. Our room (a twin) was large and comfortable and was tucked down the side of the hotel so we hoped it would be quiet. Unfortunately not, there was a noisy drunk, bin collections, bottle collections, beer delivery and goodness knows what else! I accept the hotel cannot control human behaviour but do these beverage collections have to be at ridiculous times of the night/early morning? Having said that we did have our window open as it was quite warm and maybe had we closed it it may not have been a problem. On the whole though, this is a great place to stay and good value for money.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for staying at the Angel hotel and posting a review about your experience on TripAdvisor. We are always keen to know how we did and whether we managed to deliver the service our guests expect.

I was delighted to read from your feedback that you have enjoyed the hotel's central location and the meals at one of our independent restaurants. We are always happy to see both locals and visitors dining at either Bill's or Angel Dining Rooms upstairs, which both cater to a variety of tastes and provide a truly unique atmosphere.

Please accept my apologies for the increased level of noise that you experienced during your stay. We try to control this by shutting the gates for public around midnight and not opening them until the morning in order to avoid any disturbance. I regret that on this occasion we were not able to ensure ideal conditions for a comfortable sleep, which is our top priority and usually well appreciated by our guests.

I hope that we will have the opportunity to welcome you back at the Angel hotel upon your next visit to the area and it will be a pleasure to serve you again.

Kind regards

We stayed in the Radisson Blu last year which we were happy about in many respects, but were rather disappointed with the size of the rooms in relation to the cost. As a result, we decided to try this hotel. We booked a deluxe suite which had a king bed, a separate lounge area and a good size bathroom with bath and separate shower. The hot water took an age to arrive which seems a bit wasteful. We would have liked a small fridge in the room in order to keep fresh milk and water cool. Our son joined us for a couple of days and he had a junior suite which also had a king bed but the generous living area was part of the bedroom rather than separate. We would consider this option as an alternative to the deluxe suite when we return, which we are sure we shall. The hotel is in a lovely, historic building in a great location.

Room Tip: Push the boat out and enjoy the space of one of the suites.

Dear Guests,

Many thanks for sharing your kind review on TripAdvisor following your recent stay at the Angel Hotel. We were delighted to read that you have enjoyed your stay and chose our boutique property over some of the larger chain hotels in Guildford.

We feel privileged that we are able to provide accommodation in the very middle of the historic town centre and offer spacious rooms and suites with king beds. The Junior and Luxury suites are truly charming, including comfortable living area with a separate bedroom and are very popular with our guests staying any length of time.

I noted your comments regarding areas that require our attention to further enhance our guests' comfort. Perhaps it is worth sharing that our plumbing system is part of a continuous upgrade and therefore we expect the quality of the showers to be progressively improved. Please accept my apologies if it took longer for the warm water to arrive during your stay with us and hope that upon your next visit this will not occur again.

Since our rooms do not feature a mini bar, we do try to accommodate any requests and offer our guests to store the goods that need to be refrigerated in one of the fridges belonging to the restaurants within the hotel. Our staff are happy to assist with such requests round the clock.

We are pleased that you will consider to stay at the Angel hotel again in the future and we are looking forward to welcoming you and your son back.

Kind regards,

The hotel is located right in the middle of town. However, getting to our junior suite room was quite challenging. There was no lift access. In addition, one had to go through maze-like corridors and stairs with many fire-doors on the way to the room. Thankfully, the friendly staff helped us with the big bags. Another drawback was that the room was still very hot despite having air-conditioner's temperature lowered to11°C. Two small fans were later brought in to help ventilate the room.

Dear Guests,

Thank you for staying at the Angel Hotel recently and sharing a review of your experience on TripAdvisor.

I was pleased to read that you have enjoyed the central location of the hotel as well as the service by our friendly staff.

Please accept my apologies for the difficulty of getting to your room. During your stay, we were carrying out a fire system upgrade which resulted in the fire door magnets being deactivated and hence the doors could not be kept open as usual during this 2-day service. Rest assured that now all the corridors allow a door-free passage again. I appreciate that this also greatly enhances orientation in our traditionally 'maze-like' building.

With Angel Hotel being situated in a historical building characteristic by its architecture and heritage, unfortunately some of the rooms cannot be serviced by a lift. However, a number of rooms located in the back wing can have lift access and we expect the lift to be fully functional after a scheduled maintenance. Irrespective of the lift situation, we are always happy to guide guests to their room and offer assistance with luggage upon arrival and departure, as I you also kindly mentioned in your comment.

Your feedback regarding the room temperature has been also well noted. You may be pleased to know that we will be providing very efficient mobile cooling equipment to the rooms which are susceptible to accumulated heat during the summer months.

I trust that you have had a comfortable flight back to Singapore and the whole team at Angel are hoping to welcome you back upon your next visit to Guildford.

Kind regards,

Our 3 days stay was relaxing and quiet at the room. Good location in the centre off Guildford. nearby to the railway station. The bed was to soft, and we need a little table in the room, as we got when we ask for it.

Room Tip: Rooms to the yard was quiet.

Dear Guests,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience on TripAdvisor following your recent stay at the Angel Hotel.

We are delighted that you had a relaxing stay and enjoyed the location as well as a quiet room.

I noted your comment regarding the bed and please rest assured that we will be reviewing the mattress quality as part of our refurbishment programme in the future. Generally we receive positive feedback regarding the sleep quality and we strive to continuously upgrade the level of comfort. We appreciate that our guests expect a relaxing and revitalising stay and hence it is of paramount importance for us to do everything we can to ensure the same.

I was pleased to read that our staff were able to accommodate your request and found a mini table that could be placed in your room, so that you could put your book conveniently next to the armchair.

The team at Angel are looking forward to welcoming you again - hopefully it won't be too long till you can visit us again.
