“Theatre Trip”
Reviewed 6 May 2014

We were there for one night when we went to the GLive theatre. This is a well presented hotel, with underground parking. Good location for the town centre. Clean, decent-sized room with plenty of drawer and hanging space. Comfortable bed and pillows. Reasonably quiet once the function downstairs had finished. Good decorations and unobtrusive air-conditioning. Good bathroom with separate, if bijou, shower. Soap and shampoo from dispensers (not our preference). Towels were clean but looked a bit grey and were thin. A bit too pricey to say good value for money. Attentive, genuinely welcoming and helpful staff. Overall, the only downside is that, in the bar and restaurant, a 12.5% service charge is added to every bill except breakfast. This is automatically added to your bill, but then shown as "optional". I don't mind a service charge, although I prefer to tip separately, but please don't add it to the bill and then call it optional! That aside, we would have no problem staying there again.

Room Tip: Stay away from the lift, as the entrance door to the corridor is noisy and frequently used.

Dear Reviewer,

Thank you for choosing the Radisson Blu Edwardian, Guildford Hotel for your recent visit to the area and for taking the time to write your feedback on this site.

I am delighted to hear you found the hotel to be well presented with useful underground parking and conveniently situated for the town centre. I am pleased to hear you had a comfortable stay in our bedroom and found the rooms to offer everything you needed whilst away from home. I have passed your comments about the towels on to my Head Housekeeper to look into and address immediately. Our staff are committed to providing the highest levels of customer service possible and I am delighted to hear they were attentive, welcoming and helpful whilst you were with us. Our optional service charge is added to the bill automatically however this can be removed on a guests request should they feel the service was not to the high standards we strive to deliver.

My team and I hope you will return to the hotel on a future visit to Guildford.

Kind regards,

Peter Wardley

Our 2nd stay at this town-centre hotel. Check-in was friendly and smooth. The room was really nice, clean and we could open the window. We had a sandwich in the bar (very good) and, after our night out, a glass of wine before calling it a night. The bed was a bit hard for us and we didn't sleep too well and were woken by the noise from the loading bay of the G Live venue next door. We went down for breakfast and it was chaotic. With the amount of hotel breakfasts we have it was quite obvious that there simply weren't enough staff on duty. The hot buffet was not great, the food was just not hot enough, which always makes us worry about food poisoning. My coffee was okay but my wife's tea was undrinkable. In the 45 minutes we sat there not one table was cleared. I asked for some more coffee and was almost refused. The girl finally said it would be at least 5 minutes. We asked the next waitress that went past and she came back with a fresh pot in a few seconds. People were finding their own empty tables and going off in search of cutlery, crockery and laying it up themselves. Chaos. A shame, because it is a lovely hotel, has friendly staff and is a great location. Next time, we'll go out for breakfast.

Room Tip: The back of the hotel is quieter than the side facing the G Live.

Dear Niall,

Thank you for again taking the time to write your review on Trip Advisor and for choosing the Radisson Blu Edwardian, Guildford Hotel for your recent visit to the area.

I am delighted to hear you found the check in process friendly and smooth and the bedroom was nice and clean. I am pleased to hear you enjoyed your sandwich and drink in our bar after your evening out in Guildford. I am sorry to hear the bed was a little too firm for your liking. We do have additional mattress toppers available on guest request basis and one of these could have been brought straight to your room had a member of staff been made aware of your preference. The mattresses are the same throughout the hotel so if an uncomfortable night was had on your previous stay, we could have had the mattress topper in place prior to your arrival on this occasion. I am also sorry to hear about the noise disruption from our neighbours, as these are not normally carried out early in the morning.

I have spoken to my Food & Beverage Manager and Head Chef with regard to the breakfast buffet to ensure this is an isolated incident. As you have stayed previously and on that occasion classed our breakfast buffet as ‘fantastic’, you will know that this is not indicative of the usual standards we provide our guests and I am saddened to read such feedback.

I do hope you will consider returning on another visit to Guildford and allow us to restore your faith in our brand.

Kind regards,

Peter Wardley

Absolutely lived this hotel in Guildford.

Firstly, was upgraded to a Deluxe King bedded room which was huge! Free internet goes a long way too!

The bed was very comfortable.

Didn't eat or drink in the hotel. Great location for the High St and not far from the railway station. We had our car in the underground car park. Lower level 3 has a lift which takes you straight in yo the hotel and for £10 a night is good value and secure and safe.

Would recommend to anyone wanting a great Guildford hotel in city.

Kat checked us in and was very informative and explained about all the hotel features. Charlie checked us out and was also very polite and helpful.

Spa and great gym facilities at the hotel.....we had a look but didn't use them though.

Stayed here for a couple of nights..comfortable property..was a business travel..located in the heart of the town, right next to some good restaurants offering great Italian menu..

Breakfast buffet was good..excellent spread.
Would stay again, given the convenience to travel to other places from here.
Taxi from Central London costs about 60-70 pounds to this place.

Room Tip: all rooms are good..don't expect too many views.

Spent one night in this hotel and would thoroughly recommend it. The offer at the time included breakfast and a room upgrade. The breakfast was very varied and plentiful. The staff could not have been more helpful. Extremely clean hotel room. Great location too. Would go back again.

We had previously stayed here and really enjoyed it apart from a not such a great experience in the restaurant. So this was our chance to see how much better it could be...no disappointment this time.
Really lovely modern and extremely well appointed hotel, large rooms with everything you could want and very good service. The location is brilliant and there is underground parking.
Want to stay in Guildford in style? You would be pushed to find a better place to stay.
