This is a charming theatre, right on the river, in central Guildford, which features amazing productions, touring before they premiere in London.
I took my wife to see Pygmalion with Alistair McGowan (who, to my great surprise, turned out to be an incredible actor). It was a very special evening and we will certainly go back!

An intimate theatre, but a bit too intimate. The seats are so narrow that you're forced into close body contact with your neighbours. And traffic noise is clearly audible through the fire doors. But great value if it's a loud production with a slim audience.

I've been goig to the YA for years. It puts on some fine performances and is not so large that the on-stage action is lost. The stage is quite low, so if you want a great view, try for the front row - you'll be up-close to the action.
as I said it si generally well-run, but: it is expensive, both in terms of ticket prices and drinks, and I really would avoid eating in either the cafe or the restaurant. These used to be good (though never cheap), but over the last few years, both value and quality have been eroded. I've stopped eating there.

A pleasant view across the river, a good menu. The food was extremely tasty and the staff were exceptional without being intrusive. It set us up for splendid theatrical experience

Lucky to have this theatre so near to us. Pre London runs plus lots of good plays, musicals etc. Judi Dench is the patron so you know it has to be up there with the best.
