“Black Coffee Magic”
Reviewed 1 May 2014

Agatha Christie may have called her play “Black Coffee”, but you certainly didn’t need to have any to keep you awake. I was lucky enough to get tickets to the sold out Saturday matinee… and what an experience! From the stage set, to acting, to plot the show came together in spectacular fashion. It’s always a danger when you have a new production which includes beloved characters – but my concerns were washed away by superb performances from Robert Powell (Hercule Poirot), Robin McCallum (Captain Arthur Hastings) and Eric Carte (Inspector Japp). The play has two shorter intermissions – as the play is divided into three acts.

Refreshments were provided during both intermissions… we had Jude’s salted caramel and ginger spice ice cream pots, which were both delicious (the salted caramel tasted a lot better than it sounded!) It would be nice if a frozen yoghurt or sorbet option was provided for those of us trying to watch our weight (but unable to resist a frozen treat).

The excellent production was fully support (as usual) by the amazing staff at Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, each staff member greets you with smiling politeness (as usual).

My only suggestion during the next refurbishment would be to review the leg room allocated for the seats, I’m 5’10 and had seats in the centre of row M in the stalls (perfect view)… my knees were pressed in the seat in front. This seemed to be the general consensus from this area judging by the pre-show chat.

In conclusion, I definitely recommend both the show “Agatha Christie’s Black Coffee” and Yvonne Arnaud Theatre. Thank you for such a wonderful experience!

“Loved it!”
Reviewed 27 April 2014

We went to see the Play That Goes Wrong and it was a fantastic experience. The entire audience didn't stop laughing from start to finish. The theatre is a perfect size so even if you're sitting right at the back you can still enjoy the performance. Thoroughly recommended.

“Good, but, uncomfortable”
Reviewed 15 April 2014

Saw Pygmalion last week.
Whilst the actors were very good,
McGowan, seemed sadly miscast,
The story now seems very dated,
and somehow lost it's way in the second off
with a sudden ending.
The are cramped and small,
too olittle legroom and uncomfortable

“Wuthering Low Heights”
Reviewed 11 April 2014

The theatre is compact but very comfortable and very reasonably priced.
The staff both on the phone & in house are nice.
Saw Wuthering Heights. Can't say it loved up to it's reviews in my eyes but
it was unique & enjoyable. Had a few laughs when we shouldn't have...but
hey, that's theatre for you.
