Description: The Good Intent Public House is located in Puttenham, Surrey, on the pilgrims way between Guildford and Farnham, near the villages of, Wanborough, Shackleford and Compton. The Good intent is a popular pub with Puttenham locals, being both child-friendly and dog-friendly and is also popular with the many visitors that travel to the area, to visit local landmarks and enjoy many of the fine walks and bike rides in the Surrey countryside. The good intent features a large inglenook fire place, wood beams through out making the Good Intent a really nice and cosy place to eat, drink or just hangout with your friends and family. Please note: Although we are a 'Child friendly pub', due to the nature of the building it's self we don't have facilities for infants. Please bear in mind that we are a traditional pub that serves Pub food, not a restaurant or a gastro pub and that the Good Intent is a pub that's still a pub and more of an adult environment, all children must be accompanied by responsible adult(s). Friendly and socialized dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead at all times. Uncontrollable/unbehaved dogs or children will be asked to leave.

“The Best Sunday lunch”
Reviewed 8 December 2013 via mobile

We met with friends and had a gentle walk around the Puttenham countryside and having booked at table (make sure you do, to avoid disappointment) we settled in to a wonderful country pub. Not a fruit machine in sight, great real ales and an open fire. The pub has two two areas but is undivided. The first has some tables and chairs and allows dogs in. The second area, which I suppose is the main restaurant part is encouraged as 'non dog'.
Three of our group had the roast beef while I chose the beef and ale pie. Both choices were fabulous with the richest, darkest gravy I have ever tasted!! My pie was a superb slice as opposed to an individual pie and was delicious. The portions were very generous and the prices exceptionally reasonable.
We will definitely be back again!!

“Lovely pub ...poor service”
Reviewed 30 November 2013

Although this pub has the makings of being excellent it is let down in so many ways ,

The positives :-

Great well kept beer
Locals
Still looks and feels like a proper pub
Great portion sizes

The negatives :-

Poor service
Non attentive
A chef that argues and is in a rush to leave
Landlady with a bad attitude that won't take constructive criticism and considers you to be in the wrong when challenging the quality of the food served.

Whitebait starter was superb ....went downhill from there ...mediocre main course , poorly presented , followed by a dessert that was simply not acceptable for 4-95

Sorry ...won't be coming again ! ...it's a great shame as iv been on and off for numerous years and this experience won't ever make me go back , needs to improve attitude and service and the chef needs a talking to ! As his attitude is primadonna

Solve the issues before its too late , the criteria of eating out is so much higher these days , if I go to McDonald's and eat for £3 I know what to expect if I pay £25 a head I expect better ,

A country pub with a warm fire ...I expect a warm greeting , service and experience ..however it was cold and frosty !

“Fish and chip excellence”
Reviewed 26 November 2013

Went here with a friend for the Wednesday evening fish and chips served in the newspaper, the fish was so fresh and the batter light and crispy it was great and wish I had ordered 2 of them but that would be gluttony, chips were also very good and the whole evening was great value, just booked again for tomorrow night and will make it a regular treat from now on.

“Pretty Good Country Pub”
Reviewed 18 October 2013

Went on a mid week lunchtime. Decent beer which is well kept. Food is standard pub fayre -which is a good thing. The food is quite good. Decent portions of home cooked staples (pie and chips etc.....)

When we were there it got a bit busy and the 2 staff on couldn't cope really, and one of them was very miserable bordering on rude.

All in all worth a visit.

“Typical British pub grub!”
Reviewed 29 September 2013 via mobile

If you wanted to take someone to a typical British pub then this would be the place to go. Visited after a long walk with the dog, the pub is dog friendly and has a good variety on the menu. We booked in advance to ensure we had a table. We shared two starters of Whitebait and Deep fried Brie which were both excellent. We went on a Sunday, but opted not to have the roast which did look very good, and two us had Chicken Schnitzel with chips and salad, and the other two members of our party had Pork Schnitzel and Cheeseburger. The portions were very generous and the food was delicious, the Chicken Schnitzel was juicier and more tasty than the pork. We did not have a pud as we were too full. I would definitely go there again and the prices are reasonable. This is not a gastro pub, but a proper pub with pub grub - enjoy!
