Description: The Good Intent Public House is located in Puttenham, Surrey, on the pilgrims way between Guildford and Farnham, near the villages of, Wanborough, Shackleford and Compton. The Good intent is a popular pub with Puttenham locals, being both child-friendly and dog-friendly and is also popular with the many visitors that travel to the area, to visit local landmarks and enjoy many of the fine walks and bike rides in the Surrey countryside. The good intent features a large inglenook fire place, wood beams through out making the Good Intent a really nice and cosy place to eat, drink or just hangout with your friends and family. Please note: Although we are a 'Child friendly pub', due to the nature of the building it's self we don't have facilities for infants. Please bear in mind that we are a traditional pub that serves Pub food, not a restaurant or a gastro pub and that the Good Intent is a pub that's still a pub and more of an adult environment, all children must be accompanied by responsible adult(s). Friendly and socialized dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead at all times. Uncontrollable/unbehaved dogs or children will be asked to leave.

so many pubs these days are just bland "concept" or "gastro" pubs not unlike the bars you get in airport departure lounges (especially gatwick).

thank god this place is still a real pub with a real sense of local community and bags of character.

if you're looking for a nice chain pub that serves factory made food with a fake smile you'll be coming to the wrong place.

We have been going to this pub for quite a few years and always have returned for the traditional pub food which the chef excels in. The choice of beer is also excellent and well kept. It is a shame that the pub itself is tired and could do with a refresh : jaded cushions, busy window sills and near dead plants are a let down when compared to the food. I would hate for this pub to be refurbished and turned into yet another gastro pub and I am sure it would not take much to spruce it up.

This was our refreshement stop during a walk around picturesque Puttenham. I'm glad we chose to do so. What a delight! An inglenook fireplace, wooden beams and polite staff. No pretentiousness at all. I noticed there were quite a few "special evenings" and real ale on offer. Will return.

A world away from the samey chain pubs is The Good Intent. Great guest beers, traditional interior, good mix of locals and visitors, no stand offishness. Good pub food in the English way with no pretensions to Gastro effite. Stop by.

We made reservation for mothers day. Walked in on time and were completely ignored for a good 10 minutes. All the while local good ole boys were cursing and going while we had children standing with us.

The food took forever and half of it was over cooked and/or bland. The burgers were especially over cooked and dry as a bone. I'd even go as far to say they'd been reheated...50 times, with the cheese on top.

All the staff had were unfriendly, boarding just plain rude. It didn't even seem like they wanted us there (a party of 9). They never greeted us, asked how our food was, thanked us when leaving, or anything.

The whole time that we were there, one local ole boy kept having digs about us and another party who had there dog with them, like we didn't belong in "his pub". It took a great deal of composer not to going over and put my hand through his head. Luckily for him, he was just a sad old git and we had children with us.

Overall it was a pretty horrid dining experience, one of the worst we've ever had. We will never use the place again. The whole feel of the pub is like 'The Slaughtered Lamb' in 'American Werewolf In London'. It's a shame, as we have not long moved into 'The Street' ourselves. However there is a lovely, friendly Harvester just up the road, so that will be our local from now on.
