I think that this lesuire centre does provide value for money. The cafe over looks the pool area so you can keep on eye on your children. The swimming pool also has slides and activities for all ages, with warm water, a wave machine, lanes swimming and diving boards. The toddler, children and adult areas are all seperated which i found to be one of the best aspects.

providing affordable access to fitness and activities for the local community is great...it ireally is...so it is hard to criticise this place...but it is interesting that the wide range of services they offer just makes the place so anonymous...it has also suffered from the freedom leisure people taking over....they have kids working in there who can't be paid much and prefer to spend their time mucking about with each other than actually cleaning the changing rooms...the ones in the pool are awful...half the lockers are busted or corroded so you can't get your stuff out and covered in dust...they also banned the local BMF guys from using the grass outside for the meet point...so small minded...this place can't compete with any of the growing number of newer private globo gyms in guildford...yet pass up on the opportunity to establish a community presence by allowing these guys to stay...most people seeing them will either want to get involved or try something else at the spectrum...just some very narrow minded thinking

the website is still awful too....hard to find on google...an awkward URL...and it takes an awful lots of clicks to find hat you are looking for as their is no intuitive breakdown of all the stuff they do...the phone line is just as bad...lots of 'please use our website' and options stuff before you get through...

and worst of all...you know the freedom lot are all about the money as all the concessions are totally rubbish and go against any healthy living values.....costa are pumping out coke upstairs and the rubbish down in the bowling area is awful...like going back to the seventies when we first started getting diabetes!!!!!

they could do so much more with that place...make it a real centre of excellence and go to destination...instead it is just another leisure centre which people use locally as their is nothing better...and it is starting to look tired now

The facilities at the Spectrum are fairly good, however I feel the look of the place is a bit tired, and unclean?

The leisure pool is good, with a variety of slides, wave machine and Jacuzzi's, however very busy all the time!
There is a children's pool however this always seems to be occupied by swimming lessons and unusable.
There is a good sized lane swimming pool, and additional diving pool.
The changing rooms are ample, but as previously mentioned often smelly, and unclean looking.

Burger King has gone, and Wimpy has replaced it. The restaurant looks cleaner than the leisure areas and gives the option to watch out over the pool areas or ice skating rink.

The ice skating rink is a good size, and hold roller discos at the weekends. I haven't been ice skating for years so I cant pass further comment.

I know there are various other studio's, but apart from taking gymnastic lessons in one room as a child, I haven't been downstairs since so again, I don't feel I can comment here!

To me the Spectrum is just ok, and not my first choice of outing. Also, prices seem to go up frequently.

The spectrum is a place I know very well and since the latest takeover by freedom leisure (I think) a lot of its better features have gone too.
Althought it's a good place for a day out if you want to tire your kids in the bowling, swimming pool or ice rink, they'd some of their sports facilities are good, as a leisure complex it has some big flaws.
The main problem here is the catering ( which can only be classed as terrible), general keeping up of the building and unqualified and scarse staff.
Being a sports centre anyone would expect the catering to offer a variety of food with a healthy option available. Since costa was replaced with ground the food on offer is not good enough in cuantity or quality. Sandwiches are below tesco value and pricy. As for alternatives you can queue at wimpys for half an hour in a crowded smelly place or get some out of the tin Mexican by the bowling alley.
The keeping up of the building is shocking and many times toilets/changing areas are shut down for weeks until things get fixed, lockers do not work, doors get stuck, etc.
Finally the staff are normally under qualified students who work there part time with the "can't be bothered" attitude. Expect slow speeds when being served and dont swim on a Tuesday as most of the pool staff are probably hangover from the night before (same applies to sat and Sunday's)
On the positive side, the squash courts are decent and the gym area is well equipped. Also the hockey matches usually pull a crowd in and the ice rink is probably the best in the area.

Massive leisure centre with lots to do there for all ages - ice skating, diving, swimming, various water slides etc.
A bit expensive but with so much on offer it is well worth it just to tire the kids out! There should be no complaints of being bored!
As the place is so big it can be awkward trying to keep track of where the kids are all the time.
Staff appeared to be doing a good job making sure people were able to enjoy facilities in a safe environment.
Best to go early to avoid crowds as it got very busy late morning during half term holidays.
Would definitely go again.
