We stayed here just for one night, and the stay was alright, but there is definitely room for improvement.
First the good: the room was very nice and clean, absolutely nothing to worry about there! Quiet and cozy, lovely rain showerhead, tea and coffee, etc. The bed was comfortable and we slept very well! The reception team was very friendly and helpful - from check in to check out. Overall, it was a nice stay, and especially if you are just there for a short city trip, it's a good place to stay! It is very close to the highstreet for shopping, restaurants and for seeing Guildford too.
Now to the opportunities (stating these mainly for the Hotel's benefit):
After a day of travelling and walking all over guildford in the pouring rain, we were exhausted so just wanted to order room Service. After being told by the receptionist to call room Service instead, and after failing to reach room Service directly and re-contacting reception, who attempted to reach someone from room Service....finally after 5 minutes of back and forth we ordered 2 simple sandwiches. The first came after about 45 min...(already a long time for a sandwich), and we were told the second one would just be a moment. That Moment turned into 20 minutes, so I called to ask ...after which they apologized and the sandwich arrived shortly. They thankfully gave us the second sandwich for free, but still seemed quite unorganized.
The next morning, we went to breakfast and were the first and only people there the whole time. The choices on the buffet were quite slim, but it was alright. The toaster grill was set far too high causing the first toasts to come out close to charcoal. This should be checked by the staff before opening up for breakfast. Hot items were to be ordered separately, so when we ordered scrammbled eggs, I heard the cook, who was standing and watching us at the open service window close by, let out quite a loud and annoyed sigh...not very welcoming! There were 2 waitresses walking around and talking to eachother, however the used plates and bowls were piling up on our table. We are usually not very picky, but seeing as there was literally no other guests, the staff was just not very attentive.
So all in all - room and location were great, day reception staff too, but evening reception staff and the f&b outlets seem to need some more work.
