Stayed 2 nights in order to attend a wedding at the hotel. I have to say that the hotel did a very good job with the organisation of the wedding and it was an extremely good day. However we arrived the day before and the service in the 'restaurant' was very poor. There were 4 waiting staff serving about 15 people. 2 of the staff did not seem to either speak nor understand English, which made it very difficult to order and none of the staff seemed to be trained. It felt as if they had taken 4 young men off the street that day and asked them to fill in! The food was ok bar food, not restaurant, but it took 2 hours to serve 2 courses (with only about 13 other customers!). Various other guests complained that they had to chase orders or go and find the waiter to ask where part of their meal etc was. Someone else staying at the hotel requested a sandwich for their toddler less than an hour before they started serving food. They had been told that this would be accommodated but apparently there was nobody in the kitchen to do this - was there no prep work for the meals they were serving and exactly how difficult is it to make a sandwich? At breakfast everything (including tea/coffee) was self service but it was still not efficient. I watched one of the waiters trying to clear a table for 2 and he did not appear to be able to work out how he was going to carry the cups, plates etc - it looked as if he has never done this before! Our room was extremely shabby - actually the whole hotel was in need of decorating with chips and scuffs everywhere (the bannister on the stairway was sticky and tacky!). The room we stayed in had the most badly tarnished taps, on both sink and bath, that I have ever seen - I cannot imagine how they could have got into that state. The worktop around the sink looked very dirty but was in fact bady stained with the veneer peeled off in some sections and the bath was chipped and shower curtain grubby. Again the room was in desperate need of decorating. It's been years since I 'slept' on a matress that had such a huge dip in the centre, which would suggest that it was in need of replacing. As I say, we did enjoy our stay because we were attending a wedding, although based on the service the night before we were extreemly concerned before the reception that the staff would pull it off - but the woman who organised and co-ordinated the event was very professional. It was such a shame, with a hotel in such a lovely setting, that the 'restaurant' staff were not properly trained and the hotel was shabby.

Lovely comfortable hotel. I was put near a family room though and a family decided to arrive, depart and come back in the small hours. Good breakfast.

It is difficult to sum up the glories of this hotel. An accurate advert would read as follows:

Book with us if you want:
- Old dingy rooms
- Bathrooms last updated in c.1992
- Check in after 3pm (before then you can change in the toilets)(by the way, you must check out by 11am)
- Mass hire outs to private functions who take over the whole building until the early hours
- paper thins walls (you can listen to your neighbours conversations, TV and any other excitements they get up to)
- Staff are ok. They don't do anything to rectify the complaints but how can they. The owner is milking this cow as long as possible

This is a little unfair. There is one good point I've missed: they have a lovely big car park.

Reading some of the previous reviews on Tripadvisor; I was deadly concerned that we were going to walk into a Fawlty Towers crossed with Bates Motel nightmare. Thank God - it would seem that both the hotel and staff have had a complete transformation since the last reviews were written. Either that or I am a woman very easily pleased!!

For us the pros -
Very easily accessible from the London area. Very short drive from the A3 and about 10 minute drive from Guildford town centre.

Ample parking

Really friendly and helpful staff throughout.

The restaurant staff in particular were superb - the service even when very busy we found highly efficient and exceptionally polite and friendly.

Great food and very reasonably priced - good meal size, great hot buffet/ English breakfast and fair menu choice.

Very comfortable accommodation and exceptionally clean throughout

Spa and leisure facilites - excellent and all inclusive (expect individual treatments such as facials, massage etc) We practically had exclusive use on the Saturday night to all facilites - bliss!!

And the cons..... very few....but just a couple!!

A compass, map or trail of breadcrumbs are highy recommended in order to find way to/from your room unless you are staying in rooms 1-10 right at the front of hotel. A myriad of twisty corridors awaits - but nothing can be done about this - just the general layout of the hotel/room structure!

No hair dryer in room as promised on website although there are plenty of decent, powerful dryers in the Aqua Roma spa if you do forget your own so not a total bad hair day disaster!

Be prepared for the smoke alarms in all public areas to 'shriek' for most of the evening if an over zealous Wedding DJ is in house with dry ice smoke!!!

For us this was not relevent but for guests with pushchairs/buggies, elderly guests or wheelchair users there are no lifts. Therefore if necessary insist on ground floor rooms.

And that folks is it!!

In summary.....

Comfortable, relaxing and very good value for money.

Stayed here two nights - arrived at 4pm on the Friday. Rude receptionist, and without sounding totally awful, had my bags taken to my room by the smelliest bell boy. He clearly had worn his shirt for the whole week.
The room, despite costing £90 per night was tiny. The bathroom didnt have a working fan. The bed linen although clean had holes in it. Mobile reception in the area is poor. My partner was delayed dealing with a leak at our house. He called several times, and was told no one was in the room, despite me being by the phone.consequently we had to spend £30 on calls from the room.
The breakfast was truly disgusting - white flecked bacon, cold toast and eggs from world war 2.
I had booked treatments at the spa, but due to the appalling service in the hotel, cancelled. other friends staying at the hotel said the spa was lovely. I wasnt willing to take the risk. On our way out on the Saturday to a wedding (our reason for staying there) 3 receptionists were bad mouthing the manager - if they spent more time looking after guests, maybe I wouldnt be writing this review. When we got back, the cleaner had left all her/his equipment on the dressing table in the room.
Awful hotel - although it certainly meant the guests staying there bonded before the wedding at the lovely Albury Park Mansion.
IF YOU OWN THIS PLACE - READ THE REVIEWS AND SORT IT OUT! BEAUTIFUL BUILDING, GREAT LOCATION - SHOCKING SERVICE, ROOMS AND FOOD!

I have recently stayed at the Manor House for two nights on two separate occasions whilst leading two two day sales training sessions. Whilst there are some idiosyncracies about the hotel, in general terms it was a pleasant stay on both occasions.. On the second visit, the first room allocated was right up under the eaves and smelt of smoke. I asked to be moved and one of the staff went off to check out whether an alternative room was available. He came back and took me to the room, which was fine, and then insisted on going to collect my bags, leaving me to relax with the glass of wine I'd collected from the bar. By the time he'd come back, I'd realised a couple of lights weren't working, so he trotted off and came back with replacements, one of them quite tricky to replace. He did all this with courtesy and a pleasant manner.

The new room was well presented, with a large pleasant bathroom. I ordered room service evening meal and breakfast each day so didn't venture in to the bar then, but the delegates all had lunch each day, which was on average pretty good - several of us had the smoked haddock fish cakes and enjoyed them.

Receptionists were pleasant and polite throughout, greeting me by name and acting promptly to sort out minor problems with the conference room. Only real hiccup was with the flaky mobile phone reception and the T mobile wireless connection.

Leisure facilities were well maintained and I even took advantage of the spa services and had a very relaxing head, neck and shoulder massage which was much better than others I have had at far more expensive specialist establishments.

All in all, the hotel offered good value for money. A little tatty around the edges but beautiful grounds and the staff made a significant difference.
