A sizeable group of us decided to have a meal at The Rose Valley but things immediately went downhill when we had to wait over an hour for our main course to arrive. The management sent they'd provide poppadoms due to the wait but then charged us £1.30 each for a single poppadom and then £1 each for the sauces...

Not all of the food arrived and when queried the management merely said that how do they know we haven't just eaten it, and proceeded to charge us for it anyway. Coupled with extortionately-priced drinks and the bill worked out by three people on a calculator hurriedly behind the till, we were all far from impressed and shall never be returning here again.

We visited the Rose Valley, with a group of friends, who we'd recommended the restaurant to. They'd come quite a long way to visit us, so we were keen to make sure that we went somewhere half decent. As such, we phoned ahead earlier that evening to make sure we got a table for all of us, and the person on the other end of the phone asked us if we could make it half an hour later than the time I originally asked for, which I said was fine.

When we got down there, we said we had a booking, but the man behind the counter for some reason said that we were too early, and they had told us that our booking was for an additional thirty minutes later than the time we originally wanted, which was really annoying. The manager (I think) said that we could all wait on the couch, and order some drinks whilst we waited for the table to become free. This was rather clever, as once we'd done this, leaving out of protest would become quite difficult! Either way, twenty minutes passed from our original booking, and then the manager asked us what we wanted to order, so we could have our food quicker once we sat down. This put us in a ridiculous situation, where we were stood around in a small part of the restaurant, ordering our food before we'd even sat down in our seats. Everyone we were with was obviously annoyed at this, which puts us in an embarrassing situation, as we'd recommended this place.

Eventually, we were sat down a whole fifty minutes after the time our original booking was for, but the table itself had hastily been set, and still had the debris from the previous party who been sat there, e.g. the table cloth was dirty, and the places hadn't been set properly (one of our party had two forks), although this was quickly sorted.

The manager seemed to recognize that we were annoyed, and did give us a few complimentary dishes, as we mentioned how annoyed we were with the situation on several occasions, but in retrospect, this really wasn't enough and we should have asked a better gesture of goodwill, although we didn't do this, as by the time the bill came, we were exhausted, as opposed to having an enjoyable dining experience.

One other thing worth mentioning, is that towards the end of our meal, the manager stopped by and said that we'd "pulled his leg" about making a booking, implying that we'd lied about the reservation in the first place! We were obviously take aback about this, after everything, and once we sternly mentioned that we had called, he seemed to retract his 'joke.'

Luckily, everyone agreed that the food was good, however, this time around the Rose Valley has annoyed the wrong customers, as unbeknownst to them, we're very frequent takeaway customers, and certainly won't be ordering from them again any time soon!
