“Excellent food and great service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 July 2014

We recently stayed at the Lthe Hill hotel and looked in Trip Advisor for places to eat, the restaurant at the hotel was rated the best in the area. The hotel is nice, although the rooms need a refresh, however the restaurant is excellent. The setting, menu and service are all top rate and the food was wonderful......a good price too for such high quality. I know there have been mixed reviews in the past but I would highly recommend this restaurant based on our experience.

“Fantatsic food & amazing service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 June 2014

My wife had won a competition to attend a murder mystery dinner at the Lythe Hill. We where contacted a week before to say that due to the lack of take-up on the dinner, they had cancelled it. However, they offered to put £100 towards a meal at the a la carte restaurant (used to be L'Auberge)
We jumped at the chances, as we had our wedding reception at the Lythe Hill 17 years previous and had never dined at this restaurant.
We where not disappointed!
Upon arrival, the maitre'd (really nice guy and very friendly - wish I could remember his name) served us drinks, that we had out on the patio in the early evening sun.
We decided to splurge out and have the Chateaubriand for two, which I have not had for a number of years.
The meal started with some canapes, then an amuse bouche before the starter.
I had the seared tuna, which was like de-constructed sushi. Beautiful fresh flavour with a hint of sesame, and not over cooked like many places.
There was then an apple granita as a pallet cleanser before the main event - the chateaubriand. This was beautiful and soft - it melted in the mouth. Served with mushrooms, Bearnaise & chips and a rocket salad. Washed down with a very nice bottle of Crozes Hermitage, I was more than adequately full and sadly had to forgo the cheese board!
Our waitress was Christina, and she was very friendly & helpful.
What I liked most about this restaurant is the friendliness, we where made to feel very special without any pompousness.
I will definitely return!

“Good, but slightly marred”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 June 2014

Just had a meal for 4 people in the old oak panelled room which is luxurious, comfortable and atmospheric. Our host Patrick was charming and attentive as were his staff. The reason they don't have a Michelin star is because of the small things - staff shouldn't arrive at the table and have to ask things like "who's having the steak?" - they should know. The menu looked pricey but then when you factor in the delicious mise-en-bouches between each course and the lovely breads it is totally reasonable. One gripe was that my £24.95 sirloin steak got me two cubic inches of steak, and without tasting it you could see that it was a horrible cut of meat - tasting it confirmed this. We all agreed that overall it was a very pleasant experience - a lit bit pricey but lovely location , ambience and service. UNFORGIVEABLE - is trying to charge us £30 for a bottle of wine we didn't have. For those who want to know the specifics, between four of us we had three bottles of their cheapest (but nice) wine, starters and mains but no deserts and one coffee which came to £250 including service. Overall we enjoyed it but it may be a while before we return.

“Generous and good afternoon tea”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 May 2014

Delighted to find that this hotel serves proper afternoon tea. Sandwiches, scones, cakes and pastries. Price reasonable for all there was - we couldn't eat it all even though we had early tea in lieu of lunch. Lovely terrace and nice bar room overlooking the gardens. A fair price and cheaper than most posh hotels.
