We consider ourselves fortunate to have this as our "local" pub! It's a proper family fun public house that does awesome pub grub just like it should be!

John his family and staff work tirelessly and deserve recognition for doing what a pub should do, being a place where you can meet with your chums and catch up over a few beers and feeding you when you just can't be bothered to cook or wash up!

ps. Try the fish and chips! They can't be beaten!

We have been regular quiz goers for many years and have always enjoyed the food and atmosphere that has been provided. Unfortunately this was not so on Wednesday. I appreciate that the quiz masters were new to the game but really the whole night was a shambles. They seemed totally unprepared for the quiz and neither of them seemed at all sure of what to do. The sound was so loud and the continual chatter after the questions left you unsure exactly what was being asked!Obviously the place was full of friends and supporters but their screaming comments and continual swearing was neither needed or appreciated. I'm sorry but I won't be returning for a repeat performance.

What a fantastic place to eat, the food was utterly delicious, all home cooked, and didn't take that long to come out. The member of staff that served us was polite and courteous. I would probably say it was one of the nicest meals I have had and would thoroughly recommend

It was a lovely and rare hot summers day and a cold drink and a spot of lunch in a nice pub was the order of the day. We ended up at the Royal Oak as our target destination (another review to be written) had decided to close the Kitchens at 1345 as they were having a quiet day. The pub was still really busy and though they were approaching the time for no more food orders, they were happy to take ours. They have a great choice of freshly cooked menu items. I opted for fresh cod ( and it was very fresh) and took the cold beer to sit in the sunny, and well kept garden. The meal and service was great and very reasonable. All in all a very fortuitous diversion.

I usually lunch at The Royal Oak, when visiting my father, who lives nearby and eats there every day. we used to frequent the nearby Mill, but after a very poor experience am destined to come here instead. The interior is an uneasy mix of 'old worldly' and 'not quite finished' but at least it is not dominated with screens and blaring music. A pleasant place to eat. The menu is surprisingly lunch and although I have had the liver and bacon and ham egg and chips which are clearly all freshly produced, i do wonder whether how the more sophisticated dishes can be conjured.
Anyway, this being a hot summer's day we both chose chicken and pesto tagliatelle with garlic bread (plus a pint of London Pride and a glass of Merlot) and went out into the surprisingly pleasant garden to await our fate. To be honest i would not normally order pasta when out but as it turned out it was a brilliant choice in the hot sun and it was beautifully made. Moist all the way through without any dryness. Even the garlic bread was very good.
