Three of us ate here on Saturday night and I felt compelled to write this reveiw as a way of communicating to the Manager our frustrations as well as the fact he is losing money and regular customers hand over fist!
I had previously eaten in this restaurant as well as used it for takeaways on several occasions and overall the service, food and value were all excellent. It sadly appears things have changed.
Firstly we had reserved a table, arrived to be seated by the sole waitress serving the whole restuaruant (on a Saturday night!). We sat without menus for some time until we ordered some beers from the young barman and requested menus from him. After a wait, and watching how busy the waitress was, we had to rerequest menus and chase up our drinks order. Drinks then arrived, to be warm small bottles of Singha :( we then ordered our food (no starters) and asked for some crackers to keep us going as we were told food would be around 30 mins.
In the mean time, two other tables (a family of three and a the other a couple) who has been waiting since before we arrived to order, were so frustrated at seeing us being served before them, spoke to the waitress and then left. They still had menus on the table so can only assume they had not ordered food.
Eventually (around 40 mins) our food arrived, in the mean time at least two other people waiting for takeaway orders had got so frustrated that they had also walked out.
Further people then came into the restaurant as walk in customers asking if they could be served - the waitress was telling people sorry, we have a full house. There were clearly at least four free tables in the front of restuarant!!
We did enjoy the food and the beers (despite being warm) but this didn't make up for the terrible service. When we asked what was going on, the waitress informed us that she had only been working there a week. The manager refuses to hire more staff. In fact, he has sacked the chef and was working in the kitchen himself, therefore oblivious to the issues front of house.
When it came, the bill was handwritten and it was not clear how it had been added up..when we asked them to check it, it became clear that the last round of drinks had not been included so in fact the bill increased! it came to over £75 for three fo us and needless to say we didn't tip. This was really expensive for what we had eaten and was not justified by the quality of the food.
The restaurant is also looking a bit shabby with the corrridor between the restaurant and toilets being used to store the table linen and a (broken?!) wine fridge. The loos are very dated although clean. The frontage of the restuarant looking out onto Weyhill could be improved with some blinds. Thai music could also be used to add some atmosphere.
Dear Manager - please improve your staff levels, staff training and overall customer service. After the demise of Thai Monsoon at Hindhead, Haslemere has enjoyed having a great Thai restuarant, please bring it back otherwise, based on Saturday's experience, I don't think you will survive!
