Sign outside says SkySports and largest screen for watching major sporting events in Newcastle. Well not the 2nd lions rugby test against Aus. Was told by the staff they don't actually have SkySport? Have a foreign box?

This restaurant and bar is located in the train station at Newcastle upon Tyne. The bar offers a wide variety of beer and ale on tap in a Victorian atmosphere that looks as if you have stepped back in time. Attached to the bar is a restaurant with tables both inside the smaller restaurant and outside in the main train station. The food is prepared fresh and the soups are excellent. We arrived at the station early to catch the train to Edinburgh and this stop offered us a relaxing meal, good beer, and great service.

We only really go to The Centurion Bar for one drink after getting off the Metro. However, it has certainly gone down hill. Granted on match days you can expect the staff not to have the time to wipe the tables and keep on top of things generally, but we have just recently visited on Bank Holiday Sunday at approximately 4pm. It certainly wasn't heaving and was mainly full of people travelling. The toilets were an absolute disgrace, but I have noticed this every time we have visited, no toilet roll and just absolute litter everywhere in the toilets. The tables were disgusting. The prices are also a little on the hefty side. All in all I don't understand the fascination with this place. Granted it is a beautiful building but is totally lacking in atmosphere. Would much rather go round the corner to The Telegraph.

Agreed with a previous reviewer that the photo is not correct. The Centurion Bar and Restaurant is at Newcastle Central Station. The cafe is ideal - accessed from the plartform and a great place to wait for a train whislt enjoying a drink or one of the good range of meals. Jacket potatoes with salads on the side are delicious and sandwiches can be freshly made to order. Staff are friendly and helpful. outdoor seating is also available. This is also an ideal venue for a 'station meeting' as you never feel you are being rushed.

We decided to have a coffee indoors (and chose the Centurion Bar and CC Hudson Deli) while we waited for our train at Newcastle Central Station. Many of the refreshment bars were on the platform were under cover of the canopy but with a stiff east wind blowing it was bitterly cold, so we sought an indoor venue. The cappuccino was fine but the black coffee had such a delicate flavour that it was tasteless. The tables would have benefited from cleaning. Overall it was a dispiriting experience.
