Chutney's is situated in a back lane off the beaten track of the high street, behind the Gibside hotel.
From the outside Chutneys looks like an industrial workshop, but when you go up the few steps into the restaurant you find a very clean sit down Indian restaurant and takeaway.
Very friendly staff quickly seated us, in this small but very Indian restaurant.
Food was very nice. We had the shared starter for two people, suggest that you get two of each item to share so that every body gets to taste each sampler dish and not having to half each and every sample.(the chicken chat was very nice).
The lamb chilli masala was good and very hot just as hot as a vindaloo.
Plenty of meat on your plate and even given a free sample main course which was nice but again you were given three pieces of the free sample dish for two people, surely they could have gave you two pieces each.
Chicken dishes were all white meat, Bengal chicken masala was lovely but we have had better sauces, Pickle tray was nice but when the peshwari naan was served it was a bit soft in the centre.
Service was fast and friendly and you were not rushed out.

A really nice place tucked away behind the front street. The food is well presented, tasty and they offer a huge choice of curries. I have been many times both eating in and take away - always excellent.Try the Lamb Podina!

Tonight there were 19 in our party...the service in particular was fast. They did advise us that they would bring naans, different rices, bombay potatoes etc for the table and this did knock up the bill more than it normally would come to. The food was really nice though, with no negative remarks about anything.
