Rooms Inn
Reviewed 4 April 2011

I always use Trip Advisor to find a great value for money Hotel and was expecting to have a good value for money stay at Rooms Inn. It seemed to be in a great area for the Metro Radio Arena as it was a 10 minute walk, so as expected i thought it would be ideal for our stay. Also from the reviews it seemed respectable for the price. However i have never been so mistaken in my life.
The area the the hotel was in was rough and un-welcoming. I did not feel safe on arrival due to the gangs of kids around and the building work that was going on. It took ages to find the entrance to the hotel and when we did we couldn't find any staff only to realize we had come in the wrong way. When we eventually found the right way we was greeted by a lady who checked us in.
We went to our room and the nightmare started to take shape. I will list you the problems.
1- The smell of damp.
2- Damp on the bathroom ceilings.
3- The shower held be masking tape.
4- Dusty.
5-Wallpaper coming away.
Before we could find anything else wrong with the room there was a knock on the door and we was told we was in the wrong room. We was moved to the room next door and this room was even worse.
1-Dusty.
2-Stains\hairs in the bed.
3-Damp/smell and stains.
4-Used tissue under the bed.
5-Dead Woodlice and Woodlice trap under the bed.
6-The window was blocked by a metal shed for the building work so there was no light.
7-Hair in the bath/plug hole.
8-Toilet mould/stains.
As you can see the problems are endless.
Obviously we didn't want to stay so we went to complain to be confronted by the lady on the reception again. She was rude and had her back up like she was ready for an argument instead of trying to help us with our problems. We said about the room and she had replied with 'what do you expect for the money' When we said we didn't feel safe the lady said 'We have cameras' We asked for a manager and she told us that the manager would not be in till 7am the next morning and that if we wanted a full refund we had to speak to her. She also informed us that she would be leaving at 11.00pm and that there would be no one on site throughout the night. How are you supposed to feel safe? I did not feel comfortable at all. Anyone could come walking in at anytime and do what they like. The lady refunded us for the Sunday night but not for the Saturday night (We had to speak to the manager the next day for a full refund) she did not apologize for nothing or even offer us another room. We had the hassle of booking another hotel that day (Euro Hostel) which only cost us £13.00 more than Rooms Inn.

When we spoke to the Manager (Pam) She offered us a full refund however no apologies or explanation about the experience we encountered.

I do not know what kind of hotel this is but it needs inspecting and completely refurbishing or shutting down.
Do not stay here.

The Rooms Inn in Newcastle is relatively close to the city centre (about a 10 minute walk), but the area doesn't seem safe to tourists - built up residential area - which many might feel is unsafe at night. It was far enough from the city centre to avoid too much of the noise.

The amenities were minimal and the hygiene seemed basic but acceptable. Room size was good, although the shower was difficult to get to a good temperature.

Wi-fi signal wasn't too bad since it was free.

This hotel was pretty much what I expected for a 2* hotel. The 24hr reception was useful as our train was hugely delayed and we arrived at 2am, staff were happy to check us in at that time, though barely spoke/told us anything.

Location -Not a very attractive area, but a 10 min walk to the centre, easy route. Because it's not in the centre it was very quiet and so we had 2 great nights sleep. Apparently not a great area to walk around, but we found it to be ok.

Bedroom - surprisingly large, clean, secure, warm, comfy bed, clean linen - no stains, big mirror, plenty of storage space. From the exterior of the building and reception area (a bit basic/worn/motel-ish), I wouldn't have expected such a nice room - comparable to Travelodge/Premier Inn.

Bathroom - dirt and dead woodlouse on the floor, stains and peeling paper on ceiling but bath, sink and toilet were clean. Shower took ages to get to the right temperature.
Clean towels/bathmats provided.

If you just need somewhere to sleep and nothing fancy or polished, this place is fine.

Stayed here for 1 night as was seeing Peter Kay at the arena. Great room, looked like it had just had a refurb. Booked a double room but actually got a very large family room. Brand new furniture, wardrobes etc. Bathroom was brand new, tiled floor and walk in shower which was on a step, very nice. Good sized flat screen tv in bedroom as well and there was tea and coffee facilities. Quite a lot of noise coming from other rooms at night, which was to be expected for a cheap central hotel in a city. Another plus was that it was only a 5 min walk to the arena which was perfect. Got a taxi home at the end of the night from the city centre because it was freezing and was only £2.00, so worth it. Definatly going to stay here when I next go to Newcastle.

This hotel despite being only a mile from the city centre is in a very ropey part of the newcastle. Had I realised where my friend had booked I would have cancelled. The hotel is shabby, dated and basic. However to my surprise the rooms were remarkably good - not great carpets or bathroom mind, but certainly liveable although the walls were paper thin too! The hotel was the cheapest in Newcastle for a weekend so we should have known better but at £55 I thought it was still a little dear for what you got. I would certainly recommend staying somewhere else - for a similar price my friends stayed at the Best Western which was far better and in a nicer location.

First of all......many of the reviews below are by hotel snobs. The look to criticise it in every way possible.

I was down in Newcastle for Wrestling and so I stayed at Rooms Inn with a friend.

The place itself is without a doubt value for money. The staff are very friendly and are alway looking to help customers.

We were in Room 110 and the cleanliness of the room was great. The room was well kept, HDTV on the wall, no stains on the carpet and it the room itself was fresh.

A couple of nagging points would be that there was a smell of damp in the corridor (once in the room, you couldn't smell it) and the bathroom door was warped so it couldn't properly shut.

To sum up.....If you're wanting a cheap, cheerful hotel where you get good customers service and great sleep....Rooms Inn is your place.

If you're expecting a place like the Ritz.....go to the Ritz!

arrived at place to be told directions to our room but there was abit of a language barrier so had to really find it ourselves which took awhile as it wasn't well sign posted. When walking to the room we found that the hallways were freezing and the room was not much warmer. the room itself wasn't very clean apart from the bedding and towels, the bathroom smelt mouldy and there were stains all over the carpet and walls. The first night there we must have got about an hours sleep because the walls were just paper thin so you could hear everything and considering it said they didnt tolerate people making excessive noise they didnt do anything about the people arguing in the hall way at daft o'clock. The next night we started to get ready to go out when we realised there was no hot water we rang down to reception and was told it needed to be ran for a bit before it heated up this never worked so we rang reception again and the lady came up to check. She was not helpful and accussed us of lying saying that signs suggested that we did have hot water at some point as there was steam in the bathroom, she went and got another member of staff to come and have a look and he said straight away the boiler mustnt be on he said he would be back intouch in 10 minutes to tell us what the problem was. After half an hour of not hearing anything back from them we rang reception again to be told the boiler was broken and that it would be fixed in half an hour, 3 hours later and still no hot water or heating we asked if we could be moved to another hotel and they said they were waiting to hear from the manager in the mean time we asked for a heater and was given a portable one that had an out of date PAT test sticker on so probably wasnt safe, then they eventually rang after nearly 5 hours of complaining and offered a change in hotel but no transfer to get there. we decided to just stick it out as it was nearly 9 o'clock and we were wasting our night out. will not be staying in this place again and hope people read the reviews before staying hear so they dont have the same experence we did.
