“Lunch with a friend”
Reviewed 24 July 2014

I visited the bar for food with a friend and found the service very good. The waitress we had was very smiley and friendly. I had the chicken Slovakia which was chicken on skewers with humours and sour cream. This was very, very nice and I ate the whole lot. My friends food was also nice. As the weather was very sunny it was pleasant sitting near the window looking out onto the river.

“Restaurant or pub - make up your mind!”
Reviewed 19 July 2014

Went to the Slug and Lettuce for an early dinner (5.30pm).

We ordered 2 salads and a few drinks. The food looked lovely on the pictures, but it was far from what we were expecting and definitely not worth nearly £10 each per salad. The king prawn and asparagus salad arrived without the tips of the asparagus (the best bit!), instead it seemed as though the asparagus had been broken and the tips not used. The stalks were cut in half and didn't even taste like asparagus. When we complained to the waitress she couldn't hear us properly because the music was so loud and thought we were saying that the salad had come out without any asparagus at all, and she went to tell the kitchen before we could explain that she'd gotten it slightly wrong.

The fishcake salad was ok, but the fishcakes were about 80% potato and the coating was very chewy, making me think they must have been frozen and from a packet.

The music and clientele were so loud we had to shout at each other across the table. I remember going to the Slug and Lettuce a few years ago and it was lovely, but it's definitely gone downhill. Even in the "restaurant" area the floor is vibrating with the sound of the music from further in the back and they now allow people to sit there who aren't eating.

In previous years, the Slug and Lettuce always got the balance right between being a pub (the area at the back) and a restaurant (at the front) but something has gone very badly wrong. The atmosphere was terrible, it was not good value for money, and based on this experience, I won't be back.

This restaurant/pub was a fun place. With friendly staff, great food, and it was easy to get to from our hotel near the Sage, in a nice area.
