Capheaton Hall
Reviewed 25 September 2012

We stayed in the West Wing (self-catering) part of Capheaton Hall. This was superb and well worth the 700 miles return trip from Hampshire. The accommodation consists of a recently (2011) refurbished West Wing of a 17th Century Country house. This has been executed to a very high standard and the furniture is in keeping with the country home tradition. The kitchen is modern and fully equipped with top quality white goods and comes complete with every item of kitchenware you can imagine. The bedrooms are all very comfortable and there are three bathrooms, again all to a very high standard.

All the main rooms and all but one of the bedrooms look out over absolutely stunning parkland with uninterrupted views. Grazing sheep and cattle create an idyllic pastoral scene.

Although the Hall is situated in a very quiet area of Northumberland and therefore very relaxing, it is (by car) within easy reach of Hadrian's Wall, the major Roman Forts and the iconic castles of Alnwick, Bamburgh, Warkworth and Dunstanburgh.

We were very impressed and the best recommendation I can give is that we will return next year.

Room Tip: Bring firelighters as there is an open fire and plenty of logs to burn - there is excellent central...

Well having won Band B of the Year 2011 in the Good Hotel Guide we take some impressing(Millgate House Richmond Yorks)... and we tend to make potential hosts a little apprehensive... BUT Eliza and Will are consumate hosts giving the most amazing welcome and with nothing to fear!!!
The situation, away from it all, in the rolling Northumberland country side is stunning...Will is passionate about his ancestrel home and farmlands. Eliza is equally passionate about her food, her rooms, her garden and many other things too...and how it shows.
Her breakfasts are fabulous...homemade almost everythinng, fresh eggs from her chucks...delicious homemade granola...jams... First class strong coffee...almost unheard of in so many places...and little understood.
Dinner is an equal joy... lots of things from the garden...cooked just right without any hint of prentention or stuffiness....fresh flowers on the table...lovely wines served by Will.
The room was generous with an idyllic view and every small detail thought out... so comfortable . Again fresh garden flowers and beautufully presented lotions in the bath room.
In the drawing room a log fire burns cheerily and Will and Eliza chat happily despite all the pressures of running the show and a family.
This is a place of generosity, care and thoughtfulness but in a very relaxed and easy way... where guests come first ....rare!!!

I have one major reservation....

Recommending this "secret" place to others and finding next time we want to go it is heaving with guests wanting to enjoy this very very special place and all that it offers.....

Room Tip: Select the room with the view...
