We stayed in the West Wing (self-catering) part of Capheaton Hall. This was superb and well worth the 700 miles return trip from Hampshire. The accommodation consists of a recently (2011) refurbished West Wing of a 17th Century Country house. This has been executed to a very high standard and the furniture is in keeping with the country home tradition. The kitchen is modern and fully equipped with top quality white goods and comes complete with every item of kitchenware you can imagine. The bedrooms are all very comfortable and there are three bathrooms, again all to a very high standard.
All the main rooms and all but one of the bedrooms look out over absolutely stunning parkland with uninterrupted views. Grazing sheep and cattle create an idyllic pastoral scene.
Although the Hall is situated in a very quiet area of Northumberland and therefore very relaxing, it is (by car) within easy reach of Hadrian's Wall, the major Roman Forts and the iconic castles of Alnwick, Bamburgh, Warkworth and Dunstanburgh.
We were very impressed and the best recommendation I can give is that we will return next year.
