“good day out”
Reviewed 20 April 2014

a really good day out for the family, kids under 16 get in free with a paying adult, can be a bit pricey if there is more than two adults. I think the price of the drinks could be brought down a bit to help people that like a couple of drinks on a day out £4.00 per pint of lager but on the other hand it also stops the rabble going and getting smashed and causing trouble . a bit of a tip if you do go, watch the parade ring as the last trainer to leave, normally hangs around the exit to see their horse win and is in close attendance to welcome the winner back.

“Racing for Pleasure”
Reviewed 7 April 2014

First ever visit to Newcastle Racecourse being an Experience Day present from the children and we were not disappointed.the course is set in Gosforth Park and is a very attractive racecourse.Parking is easy and the racecourse offers all the facilities you would expect.Food drink and betting are all readily available and being in the Premier Stands gave us access to restaurants and bars as well as great views. It was a great day made even better by landing the first race winner at odds of 25 to 1 then followed this with 1st and 2nd in the second race plus a couple more winners in the later races. We really enjoy going to the races and will hope to revisit Newcastle Racecourse in the not too distant future.

“Average”
Reviewed 20 March 2014

Went with my wife on a Virgin experience day on Saturday 15/3/14. This was our first visit to Newcastle racecourse and we were fortunate to be in the Premier enclosure which looked a step up from the main enclosure.

As with the previous review i felt the viewing facilities were poor even from this enclosure and most of your time is spent watching the large screen. I would have been better staying at home and watching on TV.

It was also obvious that as this was a post Cheltenham meeting that the standard of racing would be suspect. That is an under-statement as there was very poor fare on offer. As it turned out we only watched two races, couldn't stand anymore, and left.

Doubt i would visit again as the whole place looks like it could do with a major re-vamp. Even with modernisation, i doubt i would return.

“Seriously poor viewing”
Reviewed 16 March 2014

I've been going racing for over twenty years and was very disappointed by my first visit to Newcastle. As with many racecourses near large cities, it was mainly populated with people whose main intention was to drink as much as possible.

For those who are actually interested in racing, the course has good facilities for eating and drinking, the pre and parade rings are very accessible with the parade ring and winners enclosure in front of the stands. We were in the General enclosure, the Premier enclosure was further away from both the parade ring and bookmakers. On our visit the bookmakers were very uncompetitive. Finally the viewing was awful from the General enclosure there are two significant parts of the track where the runners are lost from view and whilst there was a big screen, this doesn't make up for the poor view from the stand.
