I've stayed at Holiday Inns all over the world and it always makes me smile how they're all the same!
I've just stopped again at the Metro Centre Holiday Inn Express - I've stopped there many times before over the past 8 years - and it's so familiar.
The place was clean and warm, and the complimentary breakfast very welcome.
Check-in was fast and efficient.

So, negatives or causes for concern:
The toilet seat was twisted on its mounting
The window would not fully shut
The room fit quite hot overnight
There was someone else's public hair on the bathroom floor
The hot breakfast menu was very limited (scrambled egg, sausage and beans)

I would still stop there again, but hope room 218 will be in better shape if I am allocated that room again.

Stayed here for 3 nights. Room was basic, double bed tv with selective freeview channels. Iron, ironing board and kettle with tea and coffee readily available in the room. The only downside is that there isn't a wardrobe as such, places to hang a few items of clothing, but no drawers so you end up living out of a case.

Breakfast was nice, but there were a couple of things highlighted in the menu that were not readily available like there was no muesli and the granola did not contain any almonds.

Nice touch in the hotel included paper maps of Newcasle City centre that also included maps of the transport network. Also for your convienance there were a couple of business cards from local cab companies. The train station is about a 10-15 minute walk along a footpath, this is not well lit in the night. Trains operate about a half hourly service to Newcastle Central Station, but are more frequent at the weekend.

Overall we had a nice peaceful stay in a reasonably priced hotel that included breakfast which was not too far to the city centre.

I've stayed in a few different Holiday Inn Express's and this is definitely one of the better ones.

Staff were friendly throughout our stay, the room was pretty much as you'd expect and the bar and breakfast area was quite large meaning no fighting for tables at breakfast. Breakfast served 7 til 10 at weekends. Plenty of free parking onsite

There's a good pub (The Skiff Inn), a KFC and a TGI Friday's in the immediate vicinity. £10 in a taxi into Newcastle centre.

Stayed for two days, on arrival we couldn't find our way to the room a member of staff took us and made sure we where safe. Every member of staff acknowledged you as you walked past, always had the answers to the questions of where to go, how to get there and everything
Rooms very clean, breakfast very good, how people complain about no bacon is beyond me.
    Thanks very much

Stayed here with my boyfriend and his son on Sat 25th March, room was quite small but clean, the picture posted shows what is up for guests to see in the toilet/shower room I called reception on Saturday night to ask for a few of these supplies, mainly cosmetic pads and a face cloth they man at reception said they didn't do them and could leave a face cloth at reception for me I was already ready for bed and asked if it could be brought to my room, he told me they did not do room service and so it couldn't. I didn't go down for this after that. In the morning we went for breakfast it was ok, there was enough to choose from. As we headed back up to our room I asked the girl at reception for a face cloth and other supplies she said they didn't do them there so I asked why the sign was in the room for guests if they forget anything she said she would have to take a look, she wasn't very friendly or helpful, someone went away and got me a small hand towel as that was all they could give me instead of a face cloth. As we checked out we had a small case and bag and asked reception if they could ask the Holiday Inn Express at Newcastle Station if they could hold our luggage we were told they would not as we were not guests there even although we were just checking out their hotel at Metro Centre, this wasn't a major deal but we couldn't really understand why. This hotel is very much over priced for the standard and service you get and this sign in the room for guests should really be taken down.

    Hello ErinM2805,

I am pleased to receive your candid review. Thanks for choosing the Holiday Inn Express Newcastle - Metro Centre, UK for your recent trip.

It is nice to know that the tidiness of the room met your expectations. Your comments about the "Forget Something" sign is recorded on corporate level and will help our hotel management to improve on this area. We'd like our hotels to be brilliant for our guests and I'm sorry that our reception staff missed the opportunity to make your stay memorable.
