So plans all messed up, searching late on for a place to stay the night and this jumped out (ok last ditch affair)
First impression was of rather austere 50's tower block.....which it kind of is anyway. Car park full to brim so had to park a football field distance away. I was having a bad day up to this point so was trying to remain cheerful. Front entrance matched the exterior and had a kind of faded shabby post war gloom to it.
Front desk nice and efficient and no complaints. One thing i did notice that they charged £2 for credit card transaction and £0.50 for debit cards, how is that justifiable on a £50 tariff.
So up in the lift and into the room.........Ive spent years travelling and the first few seconds as the door swings open can be the clincher. ....ok not toooooo bad.
Sit on bed, not to bad, noise level from outside is very low, big windows, carpet was nice.
Then the rest of the room starts to filter in(I was tired) a tv the size of shoe box cunningly positioned so that only one side of the bed could watch it. Magnolia through out giving a consultancy room feel(some people like it) all that was missing was some support leaflets in a rack and i would of felt comfortable. However some peeling wall paper with a couple of holes drew my attention with some nice stains down the wall next to the bed which I really wouldn't want to hazard a guess at what it was?????????? The rest of the room appears to of been selectively patch painted as there is a beige map of the world flavour to the room.
Bathroom clean, some cracked tiles and also a contraption which turned out to be a hair dryer but resembled some kind of industrial milking machine.Slightly damp smell etc etc
As with most hotels why advertise wi fi when it never works.
All in all its not cheap, its dated and there are places around Newcastle of the same price(in fact cheaper) doing this kind of thing better with more panache.
If you enjoy feeling like your waiting for some unfortunate medical test results in a badly maintained council flat, go for it.

    Room Tip: dont stay here

Staff at reception made us wait 5 minutes before checking us in as she was busy doing something else and telling another member of staff what to do. Allocated a smoking room which was a disappointment. We decided to stay in the room as we were only there for a few hours before our flight. The room smelled strongly of stale smoke and pungent shake and vac style airfreshner! As we drifted off to sleep the room began to smell really strongly of smoke. I think it mustve been people in other rooms smoking and it drifting through.

Bathroom had loads of long dark hairs all over the tiles in the shower. Paint was moulding and looked unclean.

We had booked the park and fly deal with this hotel as it was the cheapest (£110)but would not stay there again. Would definitely pay the extra to stay elsewhere.

Room Tip: stipulate in your booking a no smoking room if not a smoker

    Dear elfigerino,
Thanks for your feedback, we apologise you were kept waiting for check in, currently we are training 2 new members of our front desk team, as you can appreciate this does take time.

We do recommend requests are made at the point of booking for smoking or non smoking as we still offer both. Our team allocate requests first then all others on a first come first serve basis.

Thank you once again for your comments and we do hope you will stay with us again in the future.
    Kindest Regards,

Very local to the airport - 5 minutes walk! (Plus the metro into the city centre) a bit dated inside but friendly enough, reasonbly priced, decent breakfast selection - seems to cater for stag dos & hen dos - but no problems

A large group of us visited in May for a family get together, our only small hicup was on checking in we noticed extra beds hadn't been put into all the rooms as requested when booking on the website- this was very quickly sorted by the receptionist who changed our rooms and gave us family rooms - nothing was a problem for her and the gentleman who came to her assistance. The rooms are adequate to sleep in with a good supply of fresh clean towels and toiletries. We all enjoyed our evening meals although a they would have been better with a choice of side salad or vegetables instead of a just a tomato. Deserts were good too. Breakfast was hot and fresh as always. Will be back again next year if not before. Thanks Newcastle Britannia,

Room Tip: Second floor is best

Do not stay at the Britannia. Dated, grubby, rude and inefficient staff. Definitely the most awful place we have every had the misfortune of staying in. From check-in to check-out the entire experience was a nightmare.

Room Tip: Take your own TV and furniture!
