“Friendly and welcoming”
Reviewed 8 October 2013

Have stayed here twice now,and each time our experience was excellent. The staff are so friendly and helpful. We had the dinner experience with a bottle of wine which was excellent value for money and the food was of a very high standard. The reception/bar and dining room have all been refurbished to a very high standard and we noted that the rooms will be refurbished next year. We loved our rooms as they had some character, so I hope that this is retained when they are refurbished and do not become like the bland modern hotel rooms so often found in city centres today. We asked for quiet rooms as we were staying on a Saturday night and had no problem at all with any noise disturbance.

Will definitely stay here again - excellent value and full marks for such friendly welcoming staff.

Room Tip: We asked for quiet rooms and were on to floor - no issues with any noise at all

On arrival the staff were polite and efficient. The room given to us on a special deal, was fairly spacious with a king size bed. The decor was rather tired and the temperature of the room rather too warm for comfortable sleeping. Facilities were good and staff attentive.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the quayside

We have just come back from having the £99 deal. The hotels reception, bar and restaurant are beautiful.Staff are very friendly and always smiling. The food on the £59 menu was great, fall apart featherblade of beef with mustard mash and cabbage. Also we had creme brulee and chocolate torte which was equally gorgeous. We also had access to the sauna, steam room and gym.The room was of a good standard with lovely views of the Tyne bridge and quayside. With free parking and the friendly doorman,we felt welcomed straight away. The breakfast choices were also very nice,we are definitely coming back 10/10

I booked this hotel through a well known website, and I'm glad I did because it isn't worth the advertised rate.
The room was comfy enough, but was situated the bar so was a bit noisy at night.
The TV had 5 channels - which is rubbish.
The doorman was officious, telling me in no uncertain terms that I could not park my van in the car park, however the following day there was a van and a couple of pick ups parked there.
Would I stay again? No.

We have dinner regularly in the restaurant and the food is excellent and very good value (£59.00 per couple for a 3 course meal and a bottle of wine). The decor is beautiful thanks to the recent refurbishment however there have been some staff changes and the quality of service has suffered as a result. The bar is frequently under-staffed, especially if there is a wedding in the hotel. The bar staff are unable to multi-task unlike Lavinia who is a huge miss. The bar is not always adequately stocked. On our last visit we had to wait while the only barman on duty went to find a bottle of Prosecco which was then served without an ice-bucket as there were none and we were then given plastic glasses as they did not have any proper ones! He was panicking as he had 2 customers waiting to be served and he was very slow. His manner was very abrupt and he seemed to resent the customers asking for drinks. I think the answer is simply more staff training for some staff as this is the only thing that lets the hotel down. I would mention that Natasha is marvellous and was very apologetic and helpful and sorted things out to our satisfaction so we will be returning.

Just had my team conference at the Vermont and would highly recommend. The conference rooms have all just been refurb'd and are stunning. The food was excellent, from welcome pastries to the hot buffet to the afternoon cakes. Absolutely everything was perfect from start to finish but most importantly was the customer service. I had some unusual demands for room layout and the team met my requirements to the letter. From the moment I booked to the moment we left nothing was too much trouble. The staff were polite, helpful and friendly and made my whole team feel welcomed and special. Do not hesitate to book!

Stayed on Saturday night.Hotel is very central. The room was lovely even though the hotel was being refurbished, the view from our room looked right over the river Tyne, which was very good. The breakfast was very good and plenty of choice.
