The Vermont Hotel

We booked this hotel via laterooms.com as the price for a double room was unbelievably cheap (£34.50). A taxi home would have cost £17! Normally not within out price range but we decided to make a night of it after a family christening. Wish we had more time to stay at the hotel and make use of the facilities but we were pushed for time on the Monday morning. Very clean and nicely decorated hotel, room was superb and location was very quiet but convenient for all nightlife. Obviously on looking at the menus they were on the pricey side, so made our way home to a delicious cooked breakfast, therefore cannot comment on their food. Loved the mini bar though. We would recommend this hotel but like we said, it is pricey.

Stayed here after watching a set at the comedy club. Central location, walking distance from some great pubs and places to eat. Room was nice. Bed was big and comfortable. Only down side was the iron didn't work in the room. Service was great, ice bucket brough straight up to the room on request. By far the best bit was the whiskey bar! Hidden gem! Extensive selection to choose from, roaring fire, sofas and high backed winged chairs perfect for cosying up and sampling a few drams before bed.

My son was married here on Saturday and although some of the staff were very helpful and polite, there was no-one to tell us where we should be going and as the day was spent over 3 floors it did cause a lot of confusion. The issue of the understaffed bar, only 1 very inexperienced young man, was raised with the concierge who apologised which didn't exactly deal with the unacceptable situation which saw most of the guests dealing with a 20 minute wait to be served. Another barman who appeared briefly was very patronising and din't take the complaints seriously at all. Be prepared to spend a fortune on the overpriced drinks, a large glass of average wine was £6.80!! They also ran out of a few of the tap beers on offer. The whole day could have been managed better by the staff. The meal was lovely however the children's meals were awful. the fish bites were drenched in grease! Their starter was a bowl of rocket, a few cherry tomatoes covered in sauce and dry spicy chicken slices. One of the guests had a chocolate allergy and despite knowing this, served the cheesecake with chocolate sprinkles which was not as it was at the tasting. Upon complaint she was given an alternative of sorbet which contained a large piece of plastic. She was given a free drink as an apology??? Definitely not 4 star service

Great central location and quiet!. Convenient and free hotel parking. Really lovely , friendly staff, who went out of their way to be helpful. Clean , tasteful rooms and a good breakfast. We'd love to stay there again and next time use the pool and sauna.

Impossible to find, terrible signage.
Changed room as first one was not the view/type I requested.
Telephone broken.
Locked out of room twice (seemed other guests experienced this)
Lights / electrics fussed out - maintenance staff 'don't work weekends' and we had to wait for over an hour before someone came to fix it.
Mini bar is a cupboard drawer full of bottles!
Absolutely filthy windows inside and out.
Room was very tired and dull and dingy - no good for ladies using dressing table for hair and make-up.
Second day the room wasn't fully refreshed.
'Most' staff but not all, unhelpful, terrible customer service.
1 staff working the bar Friday night, took ages.
Shame because the public areas of hotel are simply stunning and fit the 4 star rating, the rooms and general service do not! Location is great but next time I'll stay somewhere else and visit the Vermont bar if I fancy it.
Oh and a Lift broke...unlucky it was a weekend.
Despite everything that went wrong for us, we did not complain or get upset with the staff once, yet not one single apology each time we had to to to reception!
Even on check out we noticed staff did not once ask guests if they had a good stay - I'm not surprised as I know we where one of many guests having problems. It was embarrassing having to go to reception time after time!

The hotel is in an ideal location with just a short walk to either the quayside or town centre. There are plenty of bars and restaurants within a very short walking distance.

Excellent value for money on a Living Social deal (£59 for a Friday night accommodation including breakfast). We stayed on the 11th floor with lovely view of the Tyne river and bridge. The room was okay but dated and in a need of a bit of refurbishment, but we believe the hotel is planning to improve the rooms this year.

The hotel has its own private parking areas either right outside the front door or a few metres across from the hotel.

A good selection at breakfast. In all we would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Excellent view of the Tyne river and bridge from our room on the 11th floor
