“Great locations, bedrooms in need of a revamp”
Reviewed 12 March 2014

We got a good price for our 2 night stay (£60 per night) and had already read some of the reviews so had a good idea of what to expect.
The hotel is centrally located and was really easy to find. Valet parking was on hand and we didn't have to pay for parking which was a bonus given how close this hotel is to the centre.
The hotel was in the process of being refurbished during our stay. All communal areas had been tastefully decorated and gave an indication as to what standard the bedrooms would be following the refurb.
The room we stayed in was suitable and fair for the price we paid, however, I can't remember the last time I stayed in a hotel that didn't have a flat screen TV........
Breakfast offered a wide selection of hot and cold foods which was a self serve buffet option.
All staff were really friendly, from the doorman, reception, bar staff etc....
We will definitely visit again once the refurbishment is complete.

Room Tip: Try to stay on one of the top floors for great views over Newcastle.

Booked through Late Rooms and got a very reasonable rate. I was very pleasantly surprised. Very conveniently and picturesquely located - traditional hotel with spacious rooms and very comfortable bed, and I was able to park right outside (no charge). I had dinner in the restaurant. I Chose fish of the day which was seabass - well presented but a bit bland and rather overhelmed by the chickpea and tomato accompaniment - probably a mistake on a Sunday night. Since the halcyon days of British Rail, I have had a weakness for kippers and was delighted to see them on the breakfast menu. In the belief that the North of the UK knew everything there was to know about kippers, I ordered them. Mistake! Just shy of £10 for a boil in the bag filleted slip was not what the Doctor ordered! All in all though highly recommended.

Staying for business for one night - and glad it was just one. The food was fine. In fact breakfast was very good and I enjoyed it. The room however was disappointing. The wifi - essential when travelling for work - was weak and frequently non existent. I couldn't get the temperature in room right, the bed was too soft, and the toiletries very poor. Would I stay again? Probably not.

We had a night break at the Vermont hotel, it was a lovely stay. The Vermont hotel is right next to the Castle Keep, very easy to find. First we were given a room just one floor above the reception, as I have read some room tips from previous reviews, so I did ask the receptionist to change the room to higher level with better view. The receptionist was so nice to change it without any questions. We had the room at the 10th floor, room was abit dated but in a decent size with seating area, the bathroom not very big with a powerful shower. The view from the room faced to the bridge and the river.. Breakfast were brilliant with lots of choices, many hot items, also muffins, fruits and fruit juice..
One little reminder is if order drinks after the bar closed, to make sure that how much being charged as I was charged over the amount I were told when I checked out. Overall it was an enjoyable stay, will definite go back and stay again. Will highly recommend to friends and family.

Fabulous public rooms in this city centre hotel and great river views from the dining room.

Excellent food both for dinner and breakfast.

Bedroom adequate, decorations a bit tired. We had a great nights sleep, lovely visit to Newcastle and would recommend this hotel.

Great hotel in a central location, rooms clean and large compared to most city center hotels .valet service for parking at busy times .and a great breakfast choice. Lounge bar like a gentle mans club ideal to enjoy a large drink at the end of the day .

The reception area, and bar restaurant are very nice, staff were all very polite and friendly,
my first room, the bath and toilet were broke, but got moved rooms really quickly and easily.
Second room was nice, bed is really comfortable, however the room is dated, and really needs a refresh. Had similar issues with the key card, locking me out every day and having to pop down to reception, seems a common issue. Mini-bar was shoved in a drawer. However my biggest gripe was the TV and Wifi which were shocking, Random channels in a random order stored on the tv and wifi was almost non existant, in this day and ages and for a 4 star hotel is pretty poor. However for the price, still had an enjoyable trip
