“Great Service, excellent staff, stunning views over the Tyne”
Reviewed 20 April 2014 via mobile

Stayed at the Copthorne for a 3-day conference. The venue was excellent for the purpose (60 delegates) and nothing was too much for the staff to make our stay more enjoyable. We also had organised a ceidlidh and that was catered for as well in a hall that was away from the other guests, very thoughtful. The meals were very good as well, and none of the delegates were tempted to go elsewhere, so that in itself indicates excellent value for money. Highly recommended, the rooms were clean and although some of them were a bit dated, I'm told the hotel is in the process of refurbishment and upgrading. That is the reason for 4 stars rather than 5. We will return....

Stayed for business in April 2014. Have stayed here two years ago, that's why I chose it again. Hotel's outside looks run down now and is in need of renovation. Was very disappointed to hear they had closed their swimming pool and Spa which made the hotel attractive. Furniture in rooms are worn out. Beds are clean and comfortable. Bathroom was rather a two star, the WC paper used was the cheapest quality, shampoo and other stuff not good enough for 4 star.
When I asked for room service it took 45 minutes to bring a bottle of water to my room.
When calling reception it took me 3 attempts until somebody picked up the phone.
I would say this hotel was good once, but now is, if generously rated, maximum a 3 star. Definitely not worth the price they ask for.

Stayed recently and the location is wonderful. Close to the Quayside and Newcastle arena. On that basis, well worth another visit but I have to say the hotel is tired and in need of some TLC! Staff on reception were excellent and very professional but the professionalism got lost by the time you got to the bar! The restaurant was soulless and lacking in atmosphere.

This was my first stay at the Copthorne and know the area of the Quayside pretty well. The Copthorne is situated in a great position on the banks of the Tyne and just a couple of mins walk from the Tyne Bridge. This was a last minute booking and having looked at the Copthornes own website did not fancy paying over £130 for a room only. Having tried another last minute booking site, we manged to secure a room for about £50 cheaper which we were happy with based on the fact that the Copthornes is classed as a 4*. The hotel has a decent adjoining car park at £5/night. A lift takes you to reception, but our first impression of the interior of the lift is that it was old and a bit uncared for. Booking in was good and we were allocated a room facing onto the river. The room although clean enough, mother furnishings are again very tired and of pretty poor quality. The hotel in my opinion is struggling to hold onto their 4* status I feel. Would give them a try again as we are often in Newcastle, if the rooms were given an upgrade

Stayed with my daughter and a registered blind friend. From checking in to leaving nothing was too much trouble. The staff had fulfilled my online requests when booking so our friend was in an adjoining room. The view from every room on to the Tyne was lovely, the hotel is in a very peaceful situation even though the city centre is only a few minutes walk away. The bar food was very good and the breakfast quality and choice excellent. Would recommend and also stay again on future visits.

Ok, so the view is good but you pay for that in having only the tiniest bit of fresh air intake. The A/C is not very effective either. My twin room was clean and comfortable (apart from the heat). BUT ... I wouldn't put this hotel above any of the budget hotels in the area. The hair dryer wouldn't plug in and attempts left an unpleasant sticky residue on the hands; the bathroom mini's on both days consisted of shampoo and body lotion ... No shower gel, (not good for travelling light). I'm 5'10" and had to bend to get under the shower (though good temperature and flow). The sink was chipped and the tap leaked on use. The TV switches itself off (says weak signal) and has to be reset. None of this is a problem really unless you market yourself as a 4* hotel! On checking out, I wasn't asked how my stay was so did not really have an opportunity to give feedback direct to the hotel. Having said that, the staff were all friendly and welcoming. Ate in the bar on the first night, good quality and quick service.

I regularly stay at the Copthorne, but for one trip I had to stay at a different hotel. It's when you do this and then return to the Copthorne you realise how good the service you take for granted really is. It starts off at reception when checking in, to the bar where the staff remember you, through to the restaurant. The staff just seem to get it right. The know the right time before approaching you for your order, the right time to take your plates away, the understanding of when you want to talk and when you want to be left alone. They're even happy at breakfast!

I can't fault this hotel for service. Keep it up and I'll keep on coming back.
