Really impressed with the service at this hotel. Staff were always extremely friendly and nothing was any trouble - at any hour! Breakfast had a great variety, beds were very comfortable and all at a reasonable price. Would definitely recommend and stay again.

Stayed one night, first noticed how dirty the bathroom was, so didn't want to shower. The room was very dated, although the bedding looked clean. The staff were excellent. The bar prices were very expensive. I don't mind wear and tear but when I see a filthy bathroom with 'splatters' from a previous resident I don't want to use that facility.

Thank you for your review. Your constructive feedback has been duly noted for further review with my management team. Glad to read that the standard of guest service was very high, but sorry to learn of the issue experienced with bathroom cleanliness. Bedroom cleanliness is normally a key strength of the hotel, evidenced by the many positive comments on this site on this area. We are in the midst of an extensive programme of refurbishment at present, with a lot more planned for the coming months. Hope we may have the pleasure of welcoming you back again soon.

We had a small 3-day conference (53 people) at the Copthorne in the middle of April. It will be one that the attendees remember for a long time: it was a great success! It was a superb location on the river Tyne.
Organising the event with the events managers was an excellent experience: they were keen to have us and helpful in finding solutions so that we got what we wanted and needed.
During our stay the staff were extremely friendly, down to earth and helpful to everyone. Nothing was too much for them.
The food was great, always on time. Anything we wanted was arranged by the helpful staff. I will certainly go back and recommend it for conferences and meetings, but also leisure trips.
The hotel is working on upgrading the bedrooms, and yes, some are still a little dated. But those that are done up got full marks.
The evening duty manager is the most cheerful and kind person you could wish for the job.
Some ladies in the breakfast room do look like they are not that happy with their job, but most are really kind.
Overall: a great experience for a fair price.

Group booking for 34 people over the Easter weekend. Staff friendly, efficient and nothing too much trouble. Good selection of hot and cold food for breakfast, bar well stocked. Bedrooms are comfortable with good amenities, even a fridge so you can take your own refreshments. Great location being only a 5 minute walk from the train station and situated on the quayside to instant access to the many riverside attractions.

Room Tip: All rooms have a river view.

Firstly i want to say the staff at this hotel in-particular reception were great. They dealt with my complaint very well and cancelled my booking and refunded money without hesitating at all.

Rooms were tired, noisy aircon, paint drying all along hallways. There was a cherry picker like a crane in reception. Maybe this place will be good once all the work is complete but the website made no note of this renovation work.

I booked Copthorne as I needed a special venue for meetings and I trusted in the brand having stayed at other hotels in this chain.

There is no way I could conduct client meetings here and had I booked this place for a romantic weekend it would have been a disaster.

Nice staff, old beaten hotel but appreciate most of my complaint
is about them trying to update it.

It is regrettable that your personal expectations have not been met, and also disappointing that you have felt the need to rate the hotel at such a level bearing in mind that your issue (regarding positive upgrading works to the building) was fully dealt with and amicably resolved at the time.

Stayed at the Copthorne for a 3-day conference. The venue was excellent for the purpose (60 delegates) and nothing was too much for the staff to make our stay more enjoyable. We also had organised a ceidlidh and that was catered for as well in a hall that was away from the other guests, very thoughtful. The meals were very good as well, and none of the delegates were tempted to go elsewhere, so that in itself indicates excellent value for money. Highly recommended, the rooms were clean and although some of them were a bit dated, I'm told the hotel is in the process of refurbishment and upgrading. That is the reason for 4 stars rather than 5. We will return....

Stayed for business in April 2014. Have stayed here two years ago, that's why I chose it again. Hotel's outside looks run down now and is in need of renovation. Was very disappointed to hear they had closed their swimming pool and Spa which made the hotel attractive. Furniture in rooms are worn out. Beds are clean and comfortable. Bathroom was rather a two star, the WC paper used was the cheapest quality, shampoo and other stuff not good enough for 4 star.
When I asked for room service it took 45 minutes to bring a bottle of water to my room.
When calling reception it took me 3 attempts until somebody picked up the phone.
I would say this hotel was good once, but now is, if generously rated, maximum a 3 star. Definitely not worth the price they ask for.
