Copthorne Hotel Newcastle
Reviewed 22 June 2014 via mobile

Very good quality hotel, only let down by the bathroom in the room. Lobby, entrance and bar area all top notch, outside area looking onto the river... Although not the prettiest setting... Still nice. I had a top floor room, very big, comfy bed, stylish room with all you need... Iron, hair dryer etc. Good wetherspoons just down the road and about 15 min walk into the city. Would recommend it.

Stayed for one night on 4th floor of hotel, sat nav managed to direct us directly to the hotel which was a huge plus. reception was very quick and painless, receptionist was very friendly. Room was perfect and just what I would expect from a four star hotel, we had a room over looking the river. Had dinner in the hotel on the early deal between 6.30 and 7.30pm three courses for under £15 which was extremely cheap for a four star hotel. We were down for a concert in the metro radio arena and the hotel is reasonably close. Room was quiet all night, added breakfast for only £8.95 each which again was very cheap but was of a four star standard. Car park was only £7 which again was very cheap. Would recommend this hotel.

Lovely room overlooking the Tyne and comfy chairs to sit and watch it. Friendly staff in reception, very helpful.
Good bed and nice decor
Maybe bathroom needed doing up a bit but functional and clean.
Will probably return as the breakfast by the river was also very good too.
Main entrance very unwelcoming though; dark, broken and foreboding. Then you go into a beautiful welcoming foyer complete with piano and yes, more comfy chairs. My cup of tea completely. I loved it.

There is plenty about the hotel that is good - friendly, helpful staff (especially in relation to a conference with which we were involved) and lovely to be looking down upon the river. But the room was unbearably hot (and we arrived after a day in early June that was not particularly hot).

I was travelling on business with my adult son who helps me on occasions. Having arrived late, we only got into the room at about 10pm so it was too late to start investigating other rooms. The room was stiflingly hot and the built-in air conditioning was useless so we rang to reception. They duly brought a mobile air conditioning unit which seemed to be pumping cold air out. However, we soon realised that it was designed to be vented to the outside as it was also pumping hot air out the other side - completely useless! We both had a very restless night after a long journey and before a long working day, so this was a big deal for us.

Breakfast was OK though the tea and coffee were lukewarm and the scrambled egg was not good. (Very few hotels can get scrambled egg right, but I never learn!)

I recently stayed at the Copthorne Hotel in Newcastle.
The Hotel looks very tired and needs a face-lift.
The room decor needs up-dating and the restaurant food was uninspiring.
The Spa with the swmming pool was closed so we had to take our grand daughter to the Hilton across the river in Gateshead so that she could have a swim there.
The beautiful view of the magnificent Tyne is still a great attraction.

Room Tip: Choose a room away from the bridge carrying the Metro trains because the noise of the trains can be...

Stayed 1 night and emailed requesting a river view, when arrived the hotel reception was smart and quite grand, we got a river view which was nice, room was a reasonable size but thought there was no luxury for a 4 star hotel, the bathroom was small and a bit dindgy. As we only paid £57 quid it was fine but take away the view then the rooms in a premiere inn are just the same. Didn't have breakfast as £15 each was a bit pricey. Would stay again if the price was the same.

The hotel was lovely but it was a bit expensive. The furniture was a little bit dated but the rooms were very comfortable and very spacious. The staff were very helpful when we had a problem with the booking - last minute.coms fault. We had a lovely evening out at the Quays and a great nights sleep.
