I had a standard double room but it was very roomy with a desk and small table and chair. Large windows look out over the river. Bed was really comfy and the room was well equipped with a fridge, tea and coffee making facilities, ironing board, etc. Staff at reception were friendly and helpful.

Stayed here for one night during the week on a business trip. The hotel is conveniently located, it's very close to the station

The rooms are large with a view over the river. The bed is a king size and I had a iron, ironing board, hair dryer, mini bar and tea and coffee station in the room. Couldn't find a safe though but didn't look very hard only staying one night. The bathroom provides standard toiletries.

The check in service was exceptional, extremely helpful and friendly check in staff. I mentioned that we would miss breakfast as it only starts at 6:30 and we were leaving at 5:30am and the girl on the service desk kindly offered to get something packed up for us ready for the morning. Not a breakfast but some sort of sandwich etc. I wasn't expecting it and was very pleasant surprised

All in all exceptionally good value hotel. I stayed in room 515 on the top floor. Would definitely stay here again on business and recommend to others

We stayed at Copthorne on Sunday 10th August, was a treat for myself and wife as we spent our first 2 nights of married life here 2 years ago,as it was our anniversary on Monday 11th August
Checked in no problem by 2 friendly receptionists who said our room was ready even though we were nearly 45 mins early for check in.
We stayed in room 515 which is a club room that overlooked the River Tyne, lovely room nice big comfortable bed,new tv, very clean.
Came back around 11pm, bought drink at bar to take to our room, bar staff very friendly also.
We went for breakfast at 830am, have to say it wasnt fantastic, mushrooms were barely cooked, hash browns were rock hard, and for the amount of people in there, there didnt seem to have enough food to go around,
Overall i would stay there again due to the fact it will always be a special hotel for us, breakfast needs to improve, as if i had of paid £13.95 each for that i would of been highly annoyed, as it was included in room rate i cannot complain

Stayed at the Copthorne from the 1st to the 3rd. Seriously disappointed from beginning to end. On arrival the first thing you notice is the dirty exterior to the main entrance. We checked in about 9pm to be told our room wasn't clean yet? this was very quickly rectified by giving us a room that was ready. Our room was on the third floor and supposedly an executive suite, the room was clean but very jaded the lighting was appalling ( unable to read) I asked at reception and the receptionist advised one of the lamps was missing, this was never rectified. The bed was comfortable but the rest of the furniture was old and tired. On arrival I asked if we could charge to our room and pay on departure...I was advised that this wasn't possible as they would have to hold on our card for 10 days ( we could have coped with this). We shouldn't have worried because there isn't a lot you can spend your money on. The bar closes at 12.30 and there is a very limited choice of beverage available from reception . The hotel information and room service menu were shabby and lacking.
We went down for breakfast on Saturday morning and gave up waiting to be seated after 15 minutes (I mentioned this at reception and was informed they were short staffed plus they had a large wedding reception that afternoon), Breakfast on Sunday was slightly more successful we were given a table immediately. The breakfast buffet was poor , bacon looked awful, 10 minute wait for eggs and no bread for toast. All in all poor for a 4 star hotel.
Alas we paid in advance for our room and breakfast so no bargaining point.
I found the staff to be very helpful alas its not their fault they are working with poor tools.
We first stayed at the Copthorne 17 years ago it was fabulous then and we realise time takes its toll but some things could improve without a revamp.
The young lady on reception on our day of departure was really lovely and she gave us a form to complete and assured us the duty manager would call us and discuss our concerns. We have left it a week before writing a review and as yet no call.
We should have booked a budget hotel at least we would have got what it said on the tin.
Expensive for what was on offer.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 312 the view was amazing.
