“Great one night stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 September 2013

One night stop over, the staff, room and hotel were great. Parking not a problem and in great proximity to all Jesmond has to offer. Would highly recommend and will definitely return when visiting our daughter.

I’ve stayed at this hotel 3 times in total, always used the suite (room 208 I think) Very spacious and clean, 2 good sized flat screen TV's. the room looked out on to Osborne Road had a very large comfortable bed with heaps of pillows, the bathroom was large with double shower + plenty of towels, and living room was comfortable. Bath robes and slippers a nice treat also. The bar adjoining the Hotel Billabong is very lively and you are spoilt for choice regarding other local Bars and Restaurants within walking distance of the Hotel, Breakfast is really good buffet style with decent coffee a plus, staff are great, special mention to Laura could not meet a nicer more helpful person a true professional and a major credit to this Hotel.

I am writing this review for my husband who recently went on a stag weekend and stayed at the Caledonian for 2 nights. When checking in the staff were very helpful and had a bit of banter with them. The rooms were very clean, spacious but a little dated, eg the hair dryer in the bathroom was older than my husband, this said the rooms had everything you could possibly need with a wonderful hot powerful shower. The breakfast was buffet style, very tasty and clean but the scrambled egg wasn't the best. The staff in the restaurant were very polite, helpful and could not do enough for you. Overall I would recommend this hotel for large groups or couples looking for good nightlife but not for families as the hotel can still be active in the morning (3/4 am) as there were at least 4 stag/hen parties staying at the hotel.

Stayed here on a stag weekend organised via a third party company, having done a similar thing last year I wasn't expecting much and it didn't really matter this was just to be a place to rest my head! Very surprised to actually find a very nice hotel. Staff were very friendly (as we're all the locals I encountered on my first visit to Newcastle). Special thanks to Iain the night manager for letting us have a nightcap at silly o'clock in the morning :-)
Hotel is in a great location, just a few minutes by taxi to the city centre and there is a rank outside the hotel. 30 minute walk if you fancy the exercise. Lots of hotels/bars on Osbourne Road. Gets VERY busy on a Saturday evening, didn't even bother trying to get a drink in the hotel bar, considering they have a smaller bar at the other end of the bistro they could have opened that to have served people a little quicker!
The rooms are clean and tidy, a little short on 13A power sockets and they have 5A sockets so you can't use a regular plug in them.
Good buffet breakfast, both continental and hot.
Overall a very good stay and I would certainly return if I was ever in the area again.

On a stag do so anything would do really, but this was a very nice hotel surrounded by bars. Room was very hot, it was a very hot weekend and air conditioning while needed wont be needed for many days like that. Overall a good hotel and much more than I'd expect on a stag do, would be happy to stay on a work trip. Decent buffet style breakfast and helpful staff.

Stayed here in a group of 12. First night the room was hotter than a sauna, no way to get air in through the tiny windows. One of our guys is in a wheelchair and got out on the 2nd floor, before being moved the next day.

I woke up with a broken back from the beds being so uncomfy.

No cold water in the bathroom.

Shower was really good and powerful.

Breakfast was good, bar was good. Staff were mostly quite friendly. Apart from 1 - my friend took a bottle of brown sauce to the table at breakfast only for it to be snatched by a waitress followed by the dirtiest look I've ever seen.

Overall, quite average and overpriced for what you get.

Large comfortable room. Very jazzy carpet. A refreshing change from the corporate greys and magnolias. If anything, there was a lack of electrical sockets, as this is an old building, the lamps etc are fitted with the old round 3 prong plugs which means you are very very limited (ie an extension behind the TV) to electrical sockets to charge your phone, use hair dryer, straighteners etc. other than that, a lovely hotel and will definitely stay again
