“Home from home”
Reviewed 29 August 2013

I stayed in the hotel in a superior double for nearly 5 months when contracting in the region. The rooms were large and well furnished with a useful desk and fridge that was stocked with mineral water and chocolate by the staff each morning.
The hotel staff all seemed to be very happy and a friendly bunch and it showed in the service provided, that was always good from the manager down to the cleaners.
The location is perfect if you need to get to work or visit the city as its a real hub for trains, buses and the metro. Most of the decent pubs and other good restaurants of Newcastle are a very easy walk away from the hotel (e.g. in Quayside).
I had many meals in the restaurant on weekdays over the months and the food in the hotel is pretty good and of consistent quality. I particularly liked the soups and the lamb! The bar attached to the restaurant is quiet and comfortable.
A real bonus is the leisure club which includes a nice pool, sauna and steam room. Great for chilling out after a hard days work or sightseeing, followed by a nice meal. The restaurant takes orders until fairly late which is handy.
All in all they made my lengthy stay away from home very pleasant and I highly recommend the hotel.
John B

Room Tip: I would recommend a room at the back above the second floor from my experience.

Although a little tired in parts the hotel is ideally situated for all city centre attractions in Newcastle, whether it's a night on the town, a visit to the Football or as was my visit a wedding at the venue. Reasonably priced, very friendly and attentive staff who always seemed prepared to go the extra mile, would reccomend the hotels especially if planning a night on the toon !!! Oh and if travelling by train, if the name hasn't given it away, located right next door to the main railway station.

I can not recommend any more highly a stay at “The Royal Station Hotel”. You just roll of the train and , hey presto, you've arrived..There is no need to even leave the station as you can can access to the hotel reception from the platform station, avoiding any busy station arriving and leaving crowds al (No need to ever miss your train ever again if you stay at this hotel)

The room are immaculately cleaned and spaces in a modern stylized fashion and provide all the modern pro con you would expect from a hotel in these fast moving times.

Everything about this hotel spells out class. The hotel bar is always maintained and well stocked and most importantly ,always open!!!!!

The restaurant and range of food it offers matches the class of it’s taste and service but if you prefer the quick faster track style of room service, this is equally as impressive from the private comfort of you own room.

The Breakfast buffet at the hotel is the best I have ever come across and goes on quite late in the morning, which gives you the opportunity to have that fantastic late breakfast, especially after a heavy night, (you all know what I am talking about) The get up early day’s to catch breakfast are in the past !!!!, but if you feel you must be there at half past 6, you still can!!!.

The Hotel has a top of the range gymnasium which is free to all visitors to use. This gym includes modern equipment which features a steam and sauna room and a plunge pool (Best hang over cure on the planet). Lastly a Jacuzzi to get you right back on the tracks and back on planet earth.

But I must save the best to last……….. The staff!!!!! I love them, they are best hotel staff I have ever come across at any hotel. No task not matter how big or small is of any effort for them. They will help you with any matter (within reason of course ) to make your stay enjoyable.

I have been using the hotel for years and what is so noticeable is that all the same faces are there every time I come back and visit. How does a hotel keep there staff base so consistent ? The reason being they work in a environment that has been created by the hotel general manager “ Michelle”, she has created a unique atmosphere which has the feel of a extended family and you only have to visit the hotel once and this will be illustrated to you perfectly.

Because of this I love it and will never consider staying anywhere else when i visit the fantastic city of Newcastle.

To Michelle and all the amazing staff at the “Royal Station Hotel” A big massive smile with a big massive thank you.

To anybody reading this, Book Up at "The Royal Station Hotel" Your love it!

Certainly cheap, a family room turned out to be two large interconnecting rooms: one double, one twin. Bathroom was spotless but only two towels for three guests, very little lavatory paper, shampoo and body lotion but no shower gel. Peeling wall paper in the corridor, stains on the carpet and mattresses. Two televisions in two rooms but only one remote. Very noisy room, could almost understand the station announcements.
Staff very friendly and the room service was very good, particularly the fish and chips which defeated my 17 year old rugby player son so large was the portion.Breakfast was disappointing. No tea or coffee, dried out cold meat and curling sliced cheese, only white bread for toast and very poor choice of pastries. Glad that by paying in advance we hadn't paid the full price. Very convenient for the Metro and hasn't put eldest son off the university. Fine for the odd night.

Room Tip: Avoid 230 unless you want an in intimate knowledge of the train timetable.

After stepping off the train after a long day, you couldn't do any better than this for convenience and comfort. Unlike many hotels of it's age, it has been well looked after and was immaculately clean. If you do go, take a look at the crystal chandelier in the main hall way - truly beautiful and certainly wouldn't want the job of cleaning it as they were doing on the morning of my departure! This hotel was recommended to me by a friend and I will certainly stay again. It is within easy walking distance of Life Museum, the shopping centres, the Sage, the contemporary art museum, and the Quayside. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. I did not eat there, but the friend that recommended it has and said the food was excellent. The room looked out on to the station and was a little noisy, but one would expect that, being practically on the station platform! There was a complementary fridge in the room with water and orange juice and enough room for some of your own items. The left luggage service was extremely useful, as was the complimentary WiFi. In my opinion, it would be very difficult to beat for the money which was cheaper than the local chain hotels.

I was travelling to Newcastle on my own and was looking for a budget hotel that I would feel comfortable in alone. For the budget price I didn't have high expectations but found the location of this hotel fantastic as I was meeting friends in town it was central to the nightlife so I didn't have to walk far on my own. The hotel was locked with a bouncer checking you were a guest to let you in at night which made me feel really safe. The room was lovely and comfy I liked the fact both my bedroom and bathroom looked onto the street. Noise was not a problem. Complimentary kit Kats, water and fresh orange were a nice touch. Reception staff really friendly and helpful. My only complaint was my shower was not very hot at all however as I was heading to meet friends I didn't waste time reporting this it was just bearable both in the evening and the next morning but I would definitely stay at this hotel again and I don't normally book 3* but it was nicer than some 4*'s I have stayed in.
