“Large room, good for a short stay,”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 June 2012

Recently spent two nights here on a brief visit to Newcastle.I asked for a quiet room away from any hens and stags,as we were there on a Friday, and we were not woken in the night, but were disturbed in the morning with the noise in the corridor. Our room had an interconnecting door .Unfortunately we were next to a guest with a very loud tv, the sound travelled through the door.Luckily my husband falls asleep easily, and I took my earplugs, which helped a little
We had two double beds and choice of pillows.Bed was a little on the hard side for my back, but husband didn't complain. The blackout curtains would have been better if they had fitted better. The heater took a long time to heat the room ,it was quite cold when we arrived and the window had been left open.
The bathroom was clean and bright, however our bath was not cleaned after our first night.Towels are not very large and not very thick.
Location is quite a distance out of Newcastle, and if visiting Newcastle centre for an evening out, taxi could be expensive .Also the hotel is nearby major roads ,and not much else.Remember to get a token for the car park barrier,we weren't told on check in.
We have stayed here a few years ago,not much has changed since then. It was a fair price as we booked last minute, but could have stayed at an alternative hotel and had breakfast included, for the same price.Don't expect luxury, but not bad if the price and location suit, and some noise doesn't bother you. There is a bar, restaurant and very small pool, which we didn't use but they looked pleasant .

Thank you for your recent review Wanda110 re your weekend with us.
It’s good to read that you found the rooms to be of good value & as you mention, if you want to be in Newcastle centre, we are indeed as we advertise located 6 miles north of the city. Our local taxi company does offer set fares at £15 and the distance depends on what part of the city you prefer.
Our location makes access to the local attractions and A-roads very easy and we are a great base for Northumberland & The Coast, yet still handy for day trips to Metro Centre & Newcastle.
I would suggest looking out for prepaid rates with breakfast or with dinner as they offer extra value. Our current offer is £129 for 2 people for 2 nights with breakfast both mornings and dinner and wine on the first night. Need to quote “Summer2012”. Hope this helps
Kind regards

Stayed for one night, paid for bed and breakfast. Couple of issues which were sorted promptly. Beware of the heat from all day sun on the windows (I know not common in the UK!) the air conditioning could't cope so if you like a cool room at night make sure you have a northish facing room. Glasses left for guest use in room were dirty which was a let down. Restaurant was good and breakfast exceptional.

Thank you for your posting & apologies re the glasses which will be passed on to housekeeping & thankfully this is a rare incident.
When the next mini heatwave happens we have started a process of closing the curtains all day which will make the room dark on arrival but allows the cooling units to work more effectively.
There is also the option of removing the duvet and sleeping with a top sheet depending on personal preference.
Lovely to read that you enjoyed the restaurant evening meal followed by an “exceptional” breakfast to round off your stay.
Hopefully see you on your next visit to Newcastle and thanks for choosing to stay with us.

Arrived at the hotel to be told we had to pay a behavioural bond (slightly strange I thought as we were a small group of 5 girls, late twenties and not at a stag or hen do) but whatever we paid our 100 pounds and got on with it. Rooms were nice, drinks in hotel bar were pretty expensive but find this with most hotels. Hotel isn't very central if you are going out in town centre, we had to get taxis costing around 20pounds each way. Came back to the hotel later that night and went to bed. My two friends were sharing a room and got a knock on their door at 5am to tell them to stop bouncing around their room? Rather confused about this as they were in bed sleeping!! Next morning we ordered breakfast which was nice. The room tv had a very bad signal which was disappointing as its nice to have it on I'm the room while getting ready. The next night we came home and were walking down the corridor and got screamed at by some woman for making noise. I understand if we were running up and down corridors banging but we were simply chatting walking past and going to our rooms. Literally felt we had to tiptoe around in silence at this point. Also later this night yet again my friend was woken up to banging on her door from two security guards and an old man next door who was actually getting himself into a fuss shouting at her!!! How much noise can two girls make in their sleep? The next day the hotel let us keep our room on till 6pm for a small charge of 20pounds and have to say the staff were all very pleasant, it was just more the older guests at their budgie convention for the weekend! Not a hotel for large groups especially on a hen or stag but all in all a good trip!

Thank you for your feedback x_filthy_gorjuss_x
Overall it's good to read that you enjoyed your trip over from Belfast but as you say we do advertise that we are 6 miles out of the Newcastle depending on which part you want to be at.
We also do not promote our hotel to stag and hen groups on the basis that we genuinely want people to be able to have good nights sleep without disturbance. (It is easy to forget that sound travels during the night).
Great to read you enjoyed your buffet breakfast and that we were able to provide a late checkout. Good news too that are TVs are due to be replaced in the next 6 months. Anyone thinking of a later departure times please ask at reception and it is worth considering our lovely Sunday Lunch Carvery as a treat for £14.95. My tip would be to book in advance as the self service buffet starters are wonderful and set you up for traditional roast and other entrees. Not forgetting the pudding station!
Hope your journey back was smooth and we see you again on next visit.

Just returned back from on overnight stay and I must say my first experience of a Holiday Inn. I came accross it on the internet had got a fab deal for Dinner Bed & Breakfast which was only £15 more than B&B and the kids ate for Free...The only gripe I had was that you you picked from the normal menui n the restaurant but had a budget of £23 each which was fine but I do think it should have been in the fine print or at least made aware of it before going into the restuarant as a lot of the main meals were on the £20 range and you would always go over your budget - for £15 tho for over £50 worth of food it really is worth it. i have to admit the food is absolutely fantastic you couldnt not fault at all the presentation and everything is really first class - The breakfast was really good too. anything and everything provided. The swimming pool was lovely, not too big and they have a gym and sauna and steam room guests can use and they provide towels.

The rooms were nice bit plain but plenty of storage and we had a room with 2 double beds and a choice of pillows which was lovely.

The staff were fab couldnt do enough for you.

A very pleasant stay and will surely return

Thank you for your great feedback which the kitchen team will appreciate in particular re the dinner and breakfast quality.
Our website does offer some great deals particularly if you are looking for dinner bed and breakfast. We have just launched a 2 night B&B package with 1 nights dinner and a bottle of wine with dinner for £129.00 based on 2 adults. Bookings are direct with the hotel & quote Summer2012 to get this great offer. Good to read that you liked your bedroom & the pillow menu which is proving popular.
Thanks for taking the time to give feedback and hopefully we will be welcoming you back soon.

Just got back from a 2 nights stay.paid for dinner, bed and breakfast. Only gripes I had was the noise from the stag and hens coming back in on saturday night/Sunday morning.was woken at 3.30 by a party of hens shouting and arguing should have phoned reception but didn't so my fault.woken Sunday night/Monday morn by the fire alarm going off at 6.30 so didn't get Mitch sleep both nights.nice to know the fire drill and alarms work.
The breakfast is great value for money all you can eat ranging from cold meats and cheeses to full English and everything in between .the food is always pipping hot and nothing is too much trouble for the staff thanks to david and Kelly .the pool is a little small but clean think I've been spoiled by stopping at the de vere village hotel Newcastle which has a full size pool.
The rooms are a little tied but you don't go away to stay in your room if you do you might as well stay at home.
All in all a good weekend was had

Thank you for taking to time to give us feedback and it's lovely to read the names of people who have looked after you. I will pass on your gratitude.
Apologies for the noisey neighbours disturbing you - please remember the nights team will intervene if contacted. They do remind returning party people that there are other guests asleep and to be considerate.
It's great to read you enjoyed your breakfast and time in the pool area.
For great offers do check out our website or call the hotel for our Summer 2012 deals from £49B&B

We enjoyed our stay here and the staff did a good job. All our meals were good, which were 3 breakfasts, 1 restaurant dinner and 2 bar dinners. Overall it’s a good hotel although there are a number of lesser points.

The hotel is a 2 storey 1970s style building with car parks all round, free as well. The one to the rear isn’t obvious, a sharp turn right on entry and you have to ring reception to be let in at the back it appeared, although we found space at the front. There were a few conferences and 2 coach groups in the hotel and locals use the swimming pool which looks quite a good size.

The room was a decent size and in good condition, with 2 chairs and a table. Unusually, on entering it was cold. Each room has its own electric heater and air conditioner and it soon warmed up. The bed wasn’t over comfortable, seemed to sag a bit. The bathroom had underfloor heating which was neat, although the fan was noisy and seemed to stay on for over an hour after the light went out. We had 2 very quiet nights and one night with some noise. The TV is the usual Holiday Inn 5 channels plus films if you can work it out. Internet access costs a lot. No biscuits.

The bar area looks nice but it can be busy around 6pm as it acts as a waiting room for coach trips to go into the restaurant and is a throughway from reception. The choice of beer is never to my taste at Holiday Inns although I put up with the frozen keg. We decided to have bar meals on later days as there is a bigger choice than the restaurant, it isn’t as comfortable for eating but is less formal and you can watch TV and get pints easier.

The hotel is close to the A1 although the traffic noise wasn’t much and we were on that side. There is a petrol station next door hidden by trees. We used the hotel as a base to visit Alnwick, Cragside, Woodhorn Colliery, Wallington House and drive up the coast. It’s an easy drive from the south or the west to Hadrians Wall.

Overall it was a good trip and the hotel was good enough and quite a decent price. The staff worked very hard and were very attentive throughout which is a big plus in any hotel.

Thank you for your posting Pete3080 for your recent 3 night stay. Good to read that you dined each night with us and as you say it's good to have the bar meal alternative.
Our location for the trips you highlighted is ideal and with plenty free parking you don't end up with a nasty bill at the end of your stay. The car park to the right is much quieter and the buzzer is linked to reception tp gain access to the corridor.
We have confirmation that new TVs have been ordered for later in the year which will improve our bedrooms.
For info the bathroom extract is controlled centrally on a timer where all the rooms come on & go off at a set time - closing the bathroom door normally retains any noise.
Your lovely comments re the team being attentive have been passed on and are appreciated.
Thanks for your time and hopefully see you on your next visit
