We went in on a busy friday lunch time, locals, business people and regulars in, we had a fantastic meal. It was very busy on food and the staff were very busy but we got really good service. I ordered the burger and my wife had the fish cakes, food arrived within 20 mins which considering the amount of office people lunching and others was very good indeed. I have to say that the burger (homemade) was the best i've ever tasted and streaky bacon was a nice touch to the usual stuff you would get. The fish cakes were brilliantly presented and my wife said they tasted great too, I like the Brandling although it's probably the most expensive on the high street it tends to keep away the louder more brash wetherspoons type drinkers for which im happy to pay that extra for. I noticed an earlier comment that they had the squid, I have since been back with friends on a busy friday night and we shared some of the snacks available and what i had was fantastic. Maybe a bad day for the other review but for me every time i go in its getting better and better especially the food.

“poor food, poor service, no wonder it was empty on a saturday afternoon”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 May 2011

apparently there is more than one brandling pub in the jesmond/gosforth area, we must have found the worst one.

there is limited private parking behind the property and nice outdoor seating at the front.

we visited at 2pm on a saturday afternoon and although an attractive property it was deathly quiet, a maximum of 3 tables full. there is also a confusing amount of menus; a brunch menu, sandwich menu, main menu, prix fixe menu and a blackboard menu, yet despite a lot of food supposedly on offer they we were out of everything we asked for, they were even out of fishfinger sandwiches.

in the end we had a sort of cottage pie (tasteless) chicken sandwich (left most of it) and salt and pepper squid which was unrecognisable and inedible. the mixed salad was okay but the portion was tiny for £3

the service was also terrible, 45 minutes to have the order taken and an hour to get served

luckily there is a sainsburys next door where we ended up getting something to eat
