Whilst working in Newcastle decided to opt for this hotel as it was only 1/2 mile away from where a meeting was the next day. Arrived to find a very helpful chap behind reception who gave me a room on the top floor. He was also very helpful in pointing me in the right direction to find the resturants and bars in the city (thanks!)

Overall the room was very good, a high standard and nice view over the Manors area of Newcastle. Car park was easily located next door and overnight parking was available.

Sitting in the shadow of the iconic Tyne Bridge, and thus just a short walk (uphill at the end) or shuttle bus trip to the Sage Centre and the Baltic Art Gallery across the river, as well as the city centre itself, the key attraction of this hotel is location- and I guess price for a city centre hotel. It's about a 10 minute walk from the railway station too, though again the frequent shuttle buses will save you the uphill walk back to the station. The stops are under 100 yards from the hotel.

The hotel is a converted quayside building, so quite different from the usual Premier Inn style. The room was typically functional, but acceptably clean and comfortable. We had to ask for extra towels as the room had been made up for single occupancy. It took two goes to get them delivered. The room heater was a bit under powered and with old fashioned window styles I would predict it being a bit cool on cold winter mornings. The heated towel rail in the bathroom was now a relic.

Check in was efficient, friendly and helpful, and our request for a room on the front was met with no problem. We didn't go for the breakfast buffet so have no comment about that. We strolled up to the cathedral where the Lantern Cafe in the side refectory was a quite different and interesting location to start the day.

We also took a self guided walking tour of the city - we made it up from three different options that the Tourist Office had on hand. Took a couple of hours but we saw things and went into quirky back streets, markets and squares that we would never have found ourselves. Highly recommended to get a better feel of this sturdy city. See what's on at the Theatre Royal too. They do an all in seat and pre show dinner offer which worked well for us.

In summary, a very convenient and functional hotel, not at all luxurious, but in a city where you don't really want to spend much time in your room!

Room Tip: Ask for a "room with a view" on the river front. A bit of traffic noise though, and maybe...

The location is excellent, in that it is a few minutes walk to the centre, and a few minutes walk to Northumbria Uni where I was visiting. Around the hotel although, is not very nice, and I wouldn't have walked alone there in the dark.
I checked into my 1st room, which was very grotty and tired. There was chewing gum stuck in the carpet, burns along the dressing table, and the bathroom was in dire need of being replaced. But it was the smell in the bathroom that I couldn't handle. It smelt very very damp and foisty.
I asked at reception if they could do anything about the smell, and they changed my room, to one which was marginally better.
Breakfast was fab, very friendly chef, and waiting staff - although on our 2nd day I asked an older lady in a suit where would be good to take a 7 year old, and she told me 'The Gate'... Hilarious, as the gate is just full of pubs and restaurants!
Reception staff were very friendly and helpful too. No complaints there.
Such a shame about the rooms... Maybe there are plans for a refurbishment soon???

Previously stayed at Travelodges and expected this Premier Inn to be similar. Was initially a little concerned as I approached the hotel after spotting pubs and night club on the doorstep. These, however weren't an issue. Location was ideal for my requirements and very central....as the name suggests! Check in was a doddle. Genuinely helpful and friendly staff - very approachable and went the extra mile to ensure that I was happy and catered for. Food was great and the quality of the breakfast exceeded my expectations for a budget hotel. Decor and cleanliness couldn't be faulted. Atmosphere and ambience was bright, airy, friendly and laid back. A very pleasurable stay. Would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: I was located at the back of the hotel. Guess this would be quieter than the front due to the nightl...

We did a weekendtrip with the ferry company DFDS and this hotel was included in our total price. The hotel was close to the shopping area of the city. The room was very comfortable and clean.
We also enjoyed the breakfastbuffet.
