We did not have high expectations as we usually stay in 4 star hotels near mountains and lakes. We stayed here because we wanted a city centre location to enable us to visit a concert at the City Hall, the Live Theatre and the museums and art galleries.
The reception staff made up for the reception area.
The room was on the fourth floor looking east and wasn't overlooked. It was also quiet. It was very clean and the bed was extremely comfortable.
The buffet breakfast was very good and only small amounts were put out at a time ensuring it was hot and fresh. The lady in charge made sure that it ran like clockwork even when one of the staff forgot about the porridge that we'd requested.
The staff were generally one of the best features of the hotel - friendly Geordies.
The location is as good as it gets if you ignore the lack of kerb appeal.
Why does music have to be so loud in the bar?
We will probably be back for future concert/theatre breaks

We stayed at the premier inn newcastle city centre at the end of October 09. The hotel facade looks a little grim, but it seems to be quite an old municipal building block. The decor within the whole hotel is quite tired and it is well overdue a revamp. However the hotel is fantastically sited next to the laing art gallery. Just around the corner from city hall and the main shopping area and a ten minute walk into china town, fifteen minutes to the quayside.

We arrived just after two pm but we did have a short delay for our room.

The staff, especially at reception, were very friendly.

The vending machines frequently do not work and one lift was out of order for a whole day during our visit.

The rooms are clean though there were carpet stains. We were fourth floor rear of the building and this area seemed very quiet. The bed was not very comfortable and was lumpy and needs replacing.

The bar and restaurant area is on the second floor and has very little atmosphere. The restaurant was not well used. They also need to reconsider their bar and food prices which I thought were a little steep. (ten pounds for a burger and chips and £8 for a pint and a glass of wine)

Breakfast is a very good value self service buffet and comes with unexpected entertainment. My husband once made the foolish attempt to walk straight in without waiting to be seated. The staff member in charge swooped upon him, coming rapidly from the shadows like a ninja warrior knocking about five years off his life expectancy in the process. Since he is worth more dead than alive this may prove beneficial in the long run - thank you premier inn! Seriously though, breakfast is run like a military operation, you can't even sit where you want. On the second morning we had to wait in a small queue to be seated in a virtually empty restaurant and for me personally I like things a bit more relaxed.

However I would recommend this hotel for its location alone.

Friendly staff who make you feel welcome on arrival. Few minor negatives for room, but generally ok. Major problem with food - very overpriced and poor. Obviously microwaved but had to wait over 30 minutes for very poor food! Would not encourage anyone to eat in - walk for a short distance to waterfront and try La Tasca instead!

Very good hotel, very close to Newcastle city centre and the Millennium bridge, yet still quiet enough to get a good nights sleep. The rooms are clean, tidy, and come with all the general amenities you would expect (the/ coffee making facilities, TV, bath/ shower, and complimentary shower gel!). The bathroom is a bit to be desired, not the cleanest, and is fitted with a shower curtain that kept sticking!

Hotel has its own restaurant/ bar area, and the food is quite acceptable (not exactly 5-star, but then again this is a Premier Inn!).

I was visiting Newcasle on business for 2 days to interview clients. I enjoyed my stay at the Premiier Inn and I stayed in a double room which was of a good size and very clean and well decorated. The location was great for the city centre and i was able to leave my car at the hotel and walk everywhere. Breakfast was good and the hotel staff friendly and efficient. My room was on the third floor and was quiet so I slept wall every night.
